The Brooklyn Wolves are coming off a mediocre year, not to mention they’ve lost their long-time catcher, but the group and their surrounding fans have hope for them after a strong finish last season. Alec’s not expecting the new guy to fill Luke’s shoes right away, but little does he know his new teammate Magnus will fill holes in his world he didn’t even know he had, and be a huge part in catapulting the team to new heights.

in chapter 18:
Everyone takes a swig of their drink in the toast, putting the necklaces on. Alec holds the necklace up to Magnus.
“Care to help?”
“Of course, darling.” Magnus says softly, gently taking it out of Alec’s fingers and wrapping it around his neck, fixing the clasp. He gently taps it when he’s done. “All set.”
“Thanks.” Alec beams, taking Magnus’ from him and repeating the process of his love. “Perfect.”
“It is.” Magnus smiles, admiring the charm on his chest. “Everything I have at home, there’s not a lot of family things like this.”
Alec smiles, kissing the top of his head. “You’re always going to be a part of this very extended Lightwood clan, Bane. You’re stuck with us.”
“How unlucky am I?” He jokes, wrapping his arms around Alec’s neck, grinning. “Not at all. I’m actually the luckiest guy on the planet.”
Alec smiles softly, brushing Magnus’ cheek with his thumb. “No. You’re not as lucky as I am.”

in chapter 17:
Alec sighs. “Sure. Ok. We'll be right there.”
“Be right where?” Magnus asks.
“My mother's place, apparently.” Alec wrings his hands together.
“You seem… concerned about that. What's wrong?”
“My mother rarely invites me out of the blue for anything good. The divorce, when we lost each of our grandparents, that time Max got suspended because he was struggling with the divorce and mom decided she needed me to babysit. Those are the highlights.”
Magnus nods slowly. “Maybe it will be something different this time. Maybe it's a surprise celebration of some kind.”
“I hope you’re right. She didn’t sound too distressed on the phone, but you never know.”
Or, the team receives more news when they return home

in chapter 16:
Alec decides to let Magnus take him out on a “coffee” date in Denver before they have to be at the park in the afternoon. They don’t actually want coffee, they’re wired enough without it, so he gets them both a tea, catching the newspaper headline on the way out.
San Diego and Brooklyn to Play Electric Final
Alec reads the first few sentences, which mostly explain how both teams have been hot but people are expecting San Diego to lean on their experience.
“I thought you were ignoring the press.” Magnus says, ushering Alec out the door.
“It’s getting harder. But I don’t care what anybody says. I haven’t for a long time.”
“Good. I never have either.” Magnus smiles. “That doesn’t mean it still wouldn’t be nice to prove their experience wrong.”
“Well, obviously.” Alec smirks. “I just want us to go out there and fight. To the very last out.”
Or, it's championship day, and also Alec's birthday

In chapter 15:
“What are you thinking about over there?” Magnus asks as they lay in bed, seeing Alec staring into space.
“That might have been the best team game I’ve been a part of.” Alec smiles. “This team, it’s so special Magnus. I want to win this, more than ever. We’re so close. Closer than I ever imagined we could be six months ago.”
“Six months ago I didn’t even know you existed.” Magnus laughs. “But since I have, I've always believed in you. In us. In this group. I know we can bring this home. Together.” He leans closer to Alec, kissing him softly.

in chapter 14:
Alec stops Maia, who’s bouncing between teammates in the crowd.
“I’m sure you’ve heard this from everyone already, but that was a damn good throw.”
She grins. “Wouldn’t have been anything without the catch and tag, but thanks.”
“Well, not everything can fall on the new guy, right?”
She laughs. “Hard to believe he technically still is. Probably harder for you than the rest of us.”
“Yeah.” Alec chuckles. “It really doesn’t feel like it.”
“Time flies when you have someone you love beside you, Alec.”
“True.” He grins. “It wouldn’t be the same without that person though, would it?”
“No, it wouldn’t.” She smiles, nodding to Magnus approaching behind him. “And I think he’s looking for you. I’m going to get another drink. Talk to you later.”

“Guess who’s back!” Max calls out as he approaches the dugout.
“Hm, me?” Magnus quips as Max hugs his brothers.
“Wait, really?” Max lights up.
“Yep. I finished out that game the other day and everyone agrees I’m good to go.”
“I did hear about that. How’s Andrew’s ankle?”
“Pretty purple. I think Lydia might pick him up so he doesn’t have to drive on it. But he’s ok.” Alec answers. “He earned a day off even without that though. Considering he hasn’t caught that regularly in a few years.”
“Definitely not since I’ve been here.”
“For sure. So, how did exams go?”
“Good. Glad they’re over though.” Max replies as he checks the newly posted lineup.
Or, Magnus and Max returning sparks something in the team, and Magnus learns more at the afterparty

In chapter 11:
“Magnus, it’s ok. We’re going to have lots more of these. I’d rather you be comfortable than be here. Besides, I’ve never been huge on massive crowds and parties.”
“I don’t know, I’ve seen you out here before.” Magnus grins.
“Maybe, I’m not immune to it. Just more so than any other Lightwood.” Alec laughs. “Come on, we can make our rounds to say goodbye and we can go back to my place.”
“Yours?”
“It’s closer. Get you to bed faster. And nobody will take over your kitchen in the morning.”
“I don’t mind you taking it over.”
“Is that a no?”
Magnus shakes his head, letting Alec help him up.
“Of course not. Yours would be great.”
Or, Alec continues to help with the concussion recovery
