SwynWriMo Day Seven – Business Savvy Thread

Plot a thread that takes place in one of Swynlake’s businesses with a mun that you don’t currently have a thread with.

It was early.

Simba was already awake and impatiently waiting for his coffee. He needed to get to work. Well, he didn’t need to. Simba just liked to get to work super early, before all the kids showed up. Made it a lot easier for him to focus and get what he needed done. So, he was usually up by 5:00am.

This morning he was technically late, hence the coffee from Hatter’s. It was a special thing that he didn’t do very often but he  wanted a little extra boost this morning. Something sweet and good.

But, he also hated waiting around for things. Even when he knew it was no one’s fault! Hatter’s had just opened after all and he’d ordered a complicated drink (one of the specials, with all sorts of fun whipped cream and sprinkles.) He just was antsy, rocking backwards and forwards on his toes until a drink was set down.

He sprung forward and snatched it before heading towards the door, taking a big swing and then--

“Eh, bleugh,” he coughed.

That was definitely not his coffee order. As he looked down at it, he realized that was the case, considering that it was in a hot to go cup and with a flat lid, instead of a clear one with a dome lid.

Also, there were no sprinkles.

Glancing at the name, Simba looked around the mildly crowded shoppe and spotted the only person he didn’t recognize.

“Er, are you Doc?” He knew it was. “I stole your coffee. My bad.” Simba wiggled it in the air.

Dream When the Day is Through * [Evoce]

Evangeline had been at Pixie’s with Ashleigh and Anna and a few other people for her “birthday”--she had tried alcohol and danced the night away with everyone. It had been fun, but every time someone wished her happy birthday, she wanted to say it wasn’t her birthday.

Because it wasn’t.

Evangeline hadn’t been born. According to Google, she had been created from light compressing in on itself into something called fission. She didn’t even understand how she’d been created. And she didn’t understand how she’d fallen either. Or how to get back. It had been a year. A year, unable to help Mr. Davies. Or anyone else, really.

And Evangeline was still here.

Eventually, at some point in the night, she broke away from her friends and tripped out onto the sidewalk. It was cold. She could see her breath. Shoving her hands into her pockets, she walked along the road until she came to the park. There, she walked, until she didn’t want to walk anymore, and then she lay down in the middle of the path--there was no one else around after all, looking at the stars above.

Swynlake was nice at night. The streetlamps, especially in the park, were shielded downwards, so you could see the night sky. She reached up with a drunk hand, like she could grasp her sisters in her hand. But, she couldn’t do that. They were far, far away. Trillions of kilometers. Evy didn’t even know what trillions were.

Her hand fell back into her lap and she lifted her head. There was a man approaching down the path.

“Hi!” Evy said, slightly less chipper than her usual voice, though still warm. “Am I blocking you? Sorry.”

Contrary to popular belief, Simba was not the kind of person to randomly show up on a stranger’s doorstep.

Okay, maybe he was but usually in a friendly, neighborly sort of way! Nosy--but because he wanted to get to know whoever these knew people were. Did they have a dog? A partner? Children? Why did they move to Swynlake? Did they need help? He was just down the hall, just across the lake, just down the street--

He didn’t show up expecting a fight.

Honestly, Simba didn’t really know why he was here.

Maybe because he was feeling a little self-destructive and, instead of finding solace in the bottom of a bottle, he figured a fight might make him feel a little better. After all, he was icing his mum out, so he had to find that release somewhere else.

Maybe he didn’t like to leave things unfinished and Doc, himself, had admitted the conversation wasn’t over.

Or maybe he really did wanna help Doc. And he had promised.

So, here he was. 186 Chestnut Lane. Knocking on the door. Kind of hoping that Doc wasn’t home. Kind of praying he was.
