Eggman has programmed the X Robot with the ability to fall in love with Sonic when in Amy mode. Wow. Gay rights
Amy going bananas with her hammer and then immediately posing for the cameras is very good
I’m glad this cover is firmly establishing that Amy’s signature ability is FJAY
Wow, they really showed that creep the real super power of teamwork
While Ian is certainly capable of writing good action scenes, this mostly wordless sequence feels like one of the advantages of having Tracy write an issue himself. Maybe it’s just me, but it feels like the action is just that little bit more dynamic thanks to the penciler having full control over what happens
Tails is having a great time. Good for Tails
So here’s Eggman’s new robot for this issue, known simply as the X Robot. I wouldn’t say it has my favorite design, but it is a step up from the much more generic bots we usually got in Sonic X
The concept is great, though. I’m surprised we haven’t seen more robots designed to mimic all of Sonic’s friends’ abilities in other media. Now that the idea’s been presented, it seems like the obvious next step up from Metal Sonic. I mean, I guess there’s already Emerl, but him having a built-in Sharingan isn’t quite the same thing as a Metal Sonic style robot built as an amalgam of multiple characters
Sonic and pals have been invited to be on a talk show! And it turns out Sonic is actually part camera hog
This issue is actually somewhat special. As any regular reader can probably tell, this is another issue drawn by Tracy Yardley, but he also wrote this one! Yes, Tracy’s a writer, too. I feel like people forget this sometimes, but he wrote a handful of stories for Archie’s Sonic titles over the years
This change in writers might explain why the normally squeaky clean Sonic X Sonic is being kind of a pompous dick here due to the attention he’s getting, but I guess it’s not that much of a stretch. Other incarnations of Sonic have been portrayed this bad, if not worse, and the anime version certainly has an above-it-all aloofness that could be seen as arrogance. (This is also, you know, a comic for little kids. Spoilers: this stuff is here so that Sonic can apologize at the end and learn the issue’s moral.)
Even if they brush past it, it’s also funny to see someone finally point out that Chris is the luckiest kid on the planet
