[luv u 2 i hope you cri]“Didn’t think you were a flowers kinda guy, so,” He explains softly, sitting gently in front of the headstone, “Cheers.” He pours a small lick of whiskey on the grass at the base, before taking a sip himself, a ritual he’d learned from his adoptive Mother. He’d never quite grasped the gesture as a kid, but now, sitting there in the cold and unsure what to say, he understood. Being here felt odd, but then everything did these days. Irons had locked him away with the promise he’d die in that two by two cell, but he’d been pulled out by Gideon and Ilona to what felt like a worse punishment - he’d never seen the fall of ATLAS, hadn’t been there to hear the new Irons was dead. Hadn’t been there when Mitchells condition slipped from ‘a good chance of recovery’ to ‘we’re sorry, there’s nothing we can do’.“Just doesn’t feel real. Feels like he’s still out there. You’re still out there if I just. Keep. Looking you’ll..” He’s not shouting, but his tone is tense, enough to have caught the attention of the other figure in the cemetery, a woman a fair distance away but still eying him warily - not that he blames her. With the unkempt beard and uneven hair that hadn’t quite grown out again he probably looked nothing short of miserable hidden amongst the gravestones. “Everything just feels… uneasy, Mitch.”
“Ellie’s taller - driving too, Ilona’s teaching her, fast learner, possibly better than me, huh.” His voice is weak - he forces himself to sound cheerful, for Mitchell he tells himself, but it feels hollow. Who was he to talk about lives he wasn’t a part of anymore - it wasn’t like he was there for them, only knowing what Ilona trickled to him when he found a phone to call on. He hadn’t lasted a month with the others after what had happened - he’d felt broken, too anxious and uncomfortable to stay. “Not sure when i’ll see you again - think i’ll head somewhere north.” It wasn’t like he could head home - not when it didn’t feel like home, and besides, Gideon had sounded bitter last time they’d talked - his fault, really, it’s not like he’d given any warning before leaving. Joker wasn’t sure he could face the anger he deserved. “I think they’ll be ok.” He lies softly.

“hey, dad?” sam peeks his head into the kitchen, almost hesitant to follow through with his long-time consideration.

“ I just don’t see what they’d want with me. “ he’s attracted his fair share of attention from various organizations in the past. comes with the whole genius territory. but this was a completely different story.
