President’s Address – Sydneigh’s Cancellation
It has been a tragic few days for fans of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic across Australia. Sydneigh, which was planned to be Australia’s second pony convention, met an abrupt end just under a fortnight before it was slated to happen. In the wake of this news, many Australians – along with some making the migration from abroad – have been left to deal with travel plans for a convention that was sadly not meant to be.
My thoughts go out to all of Sydneigh’s attendees and traders, who faithfully invested their money and efforts into the convention. We hope that the Sydneigh management board have been working tirelessly to ensure that the best possible outcome is achieved for those who deserve compensation.
In light of this misfortune, we would like to reassure our customers that AusCons Incorporated, and PonyCon AU by extension, continues to run financially solvent, and with the best financial interests of our customers and clients in mind. Those looking to verify our financial situation are free to do so on the AusCons website under the Releases section.
We also would like to make it clear that the management team behind Sydneigh has no affiliation with that of AusCons Incorporated. Sydneigh’s management team was grounded on grassroots ambition much like our convention, although their relative lack of experience in the context of event planning was what led, at least in part, to their unfortunate demise. We sincerely hope that the problems that have transpired do not reflect badly on PonyCon AU, let alone other indie conventions in Australia.
Our team will continue to strive to bring Australia another amazing PonyCon AU next year. However, our success into the future is dependent on your continual support for the convention, which we need as much as ever. Public appetite for investing in another pony convention is understandably low, but we can only survive as a convention on your trust in us.
We will be opening for ticket sales and traders applications in the coming weeks. Through your continued faith and support in PonyCon AU, you are bringing the Australian MLP community one step closer to an amazing and unforgettable weekend.
I hope you’re on-board to join us.
Julian Blair Executive Director and Head of Finance AusCons Incorporated
