‘Australia’s Easter bunnies’ provide shelter to wildlife in need

The burrows made by the rabbit-eared bilby serve as ‘outback oases’ for birds, reptiles and more.

I find it terrific that these guys play such a crucial role in our native habitat for other species. But what worries me is that those that rely on a bilby for habitat function are relying on a species that is being increasingly endangered in Australia and one must wonder what ramifications this has for many others such as the dwarf Bearded Dragon .

Really scary how much landscape can be altered by fire, then how the fire alters species interactions. Foxes like cats devastate native small mammal populations and the fire doesn’t help as the medium sized mammals increase from 18 to 54% of fox diets after fire.
