RACHEL: Kurt? I hope this is your number, and I hope this doesn't wake you. I have a little bit of a quandary, and I need an outside opinion from someone honest and straightforward, and it seems like that person would be you. It's nothing bad, really, just...please text me when you get this.

backstory:
(TRIGGER WARNING: death and abuse)
Despite coming from a well rounded, loving, and supportive family, Kurt Hummel had been dealing with one thing his entire life; loneliness. From being the only kid on the block throwing tea parties compared to the traditional street hockey game, to being laughed at by parents as he strutted his 4 year-old self into his first ballet class. Wasn’t like he needed anyone besides his mother anyway, right? She was his biggest support system. Giving him the push he needed to be himself. Screw the hater mentality, and show everyone just how great he could be. It would only make him stronger then the day before. So when her life was cut short a few months after Kurt’s 8th birthday, it knocked the breath from him.
There was no time to mourn. No time to wallow in the great loss. He still had his dad. He had to take charge now, if only to keep his mother’s spirit alive within the home. So after his dad failed to keep the Friday night dinner a traditional meal by burning it to a crisp, it was only up to Kurt now to take what he had learned from watching his mother in the kitchen into existence.
It was just him and his dad since then. That was, until high school rolled around and Kurt found the courage within himself to join the choir, where he made a friend or two at the very least. But everything took a turn when a transfer student came along and swept Kurt off his feet. He was British, having transferred for some job opportunity with his dad, and Kurt couldn’t help but be enamored by the guy. He was charming, suave, and the epitome of a Disney Prince. And he chose to befriend Kurt of all people, leading to a picture perfect friendship until it leveled up to a romantic relationship in their junior year. He had snagged his first boyfriend. Making the years of hiding in the closet seemed so obsolete. He was happy. Life was great. Nothing could touch him now.
That is, until it did.
It never starts off bad. Maybe that’s why it took a while for the aftershock to set in. Excuses and apologies came in waves at a time, empty promises of change that never came, only to rinse and repeat. It wasn’t like it continued to hurt. If anything, it only made the body and mind numb and the warning signs of an oncoming attack being more obvious. Did it matter? They loved each other. Everyone had their faults. No one was perfect. It wasn’t like bones got broken, and he never sported a bruise –not on the surface at least. Even if he had spoken up sooner, how was he to know anyone would actually believe him? For three years, Kurt took every vile word and bit of pain that the supposed love of his life could dish out. If only by chance, accident, or fate that his father came home early to find his only son being held by the hair, tears in his eyes while sobbing in short pleas for his boyfriend to stop that everything hit the fan.
Now, a year later, Kurt is determined to move on. Now he finds himself leaving New Mexico for Ginsburg University. It would be one of the first times he found himself away from home, but he knows he needs to do this, if only to gain back his self confidence and independence.
