How I feel about this character: problematic fave; fave problem

All the people I ship romantically with this character: odysseus/penelope is the otp from way back. the wily likemindedness... the longing... the poetry of their reunion... how at the end, after all his anxiety about whether she’s been faithful, she’s the one who tests him, and is the only person besides athena to outmatch him in wit... they really deserve each other

My non-romantic OTP for this character: i appreciate the comedy of the gruesome twosome (odysseus and diomedes), but obviously the other relationship that matters most to him and to me is telemachus. early telemachus kind of has a luke skywalker thing going on, and i find his growth in relation to odysseus very compelling

My unpopular opinion about this character: god, it’s literally just the fact that he loves his family, isn’t it? a concept so clear and crucial that it drives the fucking odyssey, and yet

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: the canonicity of myths is a tricky thing. i can think of lots of myths i do or don’t like, but honestly? wrt homer, i like the things that are ambiguous or left out. the odyssey is a weird, sad book with a weird ending and i like it the way it is
