“One of Pittsburgh’s greatest treasures” says the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Chatham Baroque continues to excite local, national, and international audiences with dazzling technique and lively interpretations of seventeenth- and eighteenth-century music played on instruments of the period. Founded in 1990, Chatham Baroque continues to thrive with a full calendar of concerts, tours, musical collaborations, and the CD releases. The trio of baroque violin, viola da gamba, theorbo and baroque guitar tours nationally and internationally, and has recorded ten critically acclaimed CDs.

The ensemble offers audiences the opportunity to hear baroque music that is accessible and thrillingly vivid, with a freshness akin to improvisational jazz. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette proclaims, “Pound for pound, you aren’t going to find a better ensemble… than Chatham Baroque.” Chatham Baroque is repeatedly listed among the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s “Top 50 Cultural Forces in Pittsburgh” and “Ten Best Classical Concerts.”

John Farrell is a writer and producer working in Boston. He is the author of The Day Without Yesterday: Lemaître, Einstein and the Birth of Modern Cosmology from Basic Books, an imprint of the Perseus Books Group. A graduate of Harvard College with a B.A. in English and American Literature, Farrell has written for Skeptic, Cosmos Magazine, New Scientist, The Wall Street Journal, The Manchester Guardian, The Boston Globe, Salon, National Review, Huffington Post, First Things and The Tablet of London, and he writes a science/tech blog for Forbes. He was a 2010 Templeton-Cambridge Journalism Fellow in Science and Religion.

"In the meantime, Cavalletti had returned to the United States in 1978 to speak at a Montessori Conference in Houston, Texas. A young Montessori teacher named Rebekah Rojcewicz, after attending her workshop on the spirituality of children, wrote in her pocket diary: 'Today my life is changed. This is for me. I will go to Rome and study it, and it will become mine.' She began to correspond with Cavalletti and the following year, after fulfilling a teaching obligation, Rojcewicz headed to Rome, where she completed a two-year course covering all three levels of the Catechesis (ages three to twelve)." Independent Artist, Linus Meldrum, who is also a revered Professor of Fine Arts at Franciscan University, will speak as part of a panel to present the exhibit on Jean-François Millet’s paintings during the Festival of Friendship at 11:30am on Sunday, Oct 1 in Pittsburgh’s Synod Hall. Our hearts are full of joy to announce that on Saturday, Sept 30 at 5pm, in Pittsburgh’s Synod Hall, Rebekah Rojcewicz will speak on the subject: The Child as Maestro: The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, as part of the Festival of Friendship: revolutionoftenderness.net ! Rebekah studied directly with Sofia Cavalletti and Gianna Gobbi in Rome and was one of the first trainers to bring the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd to the United States. She is a Permanent Member of the Executive Committee of the International Council of Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. 

Have you ever been curious about the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd? It’s a Montessori-inspired method for introducing children into the deepest mysteries of Christianity. Her memoir, Love and Salt: A Spiritual Friendship in Letters, co-authored with Amy Andrews, won the 2014 Christopher Award for “literature that affirms the highest values of the human spirit.” She is also the author of Strange Journey (forthcoming 2017, Loyola Press), Grace Filled Days (2016, Loyola Press) and a co-author of Daily Inspiration for Women (2014, Loyola Press). She’s currently at work on a second memoir of her Catholic girlhood in southern Louisiana, called Eden Isles.
