Change: “Got To Get Up” (1983)
Remember when Omega WUSB once championed chillwave and played Washed Out? Yeah, so did I. That was before Saint Pepsi ruined that for us and we walked away from it forever. We thumbed through Brooklyn’s Mexican Summer and revisited Ernest Greene’s project for an overnight label tribute broadcast. For kicks and giggles, we were curious if there was a sample source for “Get Up” and, voila, we found its dad loungin’ in the living room with a Yorx stereo system, collared-up and wearing neon-framed shades just thinking about Alyssa Milano, Tracy Gold, and Staci Keanan all at the same time. Ernest Greene didn’t take much effort in jacking much of Change’s original, and with a little tuning up made his more recognizable.
