Professional Sustainability: Dyes from flowers and vegetables have been used for thousands of years all around the world. Natural dyes are better than synthetic for many reasons. 1) They do not contain harmful chemicals 2) They are safe for workers and the environment unlike synthetic dyes which can be toxic and 3) Plants grow in abundance so using them for dying creates little to no waste. The biggest disadvantages to using natural dyes is that they take longer to set, can fade, and use a lot more freshwater. For what it’s Earth, I would argue that the disadvantages are worth it because of the slew of environmental benefits.
