the clock struck five and sylus had just passed through the threshold of your kitchen. he leaned towards the wall by the dining table, watching you cut through vegetables and humming a tune from one of his vinyl records.
seeing you so focused on the task at hand, and evidently feigning ignorance of his presence, he made his way towards you, his right hand reaching low to wrap around your waist; nuzzling on your neck before planting a quick peck.
noticing your nonchalance and the subtle teasing glint in your eyes, he said, “so you knew i’ve come home but decided to ignore me?”
“hmm?” your eyes never left the movement of the knife. “oh. is that you, sylus? you’re finally home?”
defeated, sylus let his head rest on your shoulder. you felt the soft touch of his lips on your skin and you couldn’t help but chuckle at the tickling sensation.
“i’m home, sweetie.”
you put down the knife and smiled fully, swooned by the intriguing neediness in his voice—it’s rare for you to see him like this; it’s a privilege, and you paused to revel in the moment. when you turned in his arms, he loosened his hold—just enough for you to move, but not enough to let you go.
careful not to dirty his clothes, you rested your arms on his shoulders. you slowly closed the gap between your lips, seeking to make up for the days you hadn’t felt his touch. his hands wandered up your back, tracing the line of your spine as he deepened your kiss.
when you pulled away, you caught the flicker of disappointment in his eyes as he moved back.
“welcome home, sylus,” you said, almost a murmur; your voice a little breathier than before. “was the trip exhausting?”
he sighed. sylus didn’t want to admit it.
“i missed you.”
“i missed you more,” you said, reaching up to brush a lingering trace of your kiss from the corner of his lips. “but i have to ask, is the leader of onychinus losing his edge? how come this business deal took more than three days?”
sylus had been away for business in linkon. as fate would have it, this particular rendezvous had him in the clutches of some of the most unsavory individuals. changes had to be made.
“well, i didn’t have my accomplice at the scene.”
“oh? you’re blaming me?”
“maybe.”
“then, would a hearty meal be enough as compensation?”
“yes,” he said, kissing your cheek. “and more, if you’ll allow it.
“someone’s feeling lucky today, huh?”
he hummed, leaning onto you as he kept you wrapped in his arms; reveling in the warmth of your body and the sound of your breathing; the entirety of you that couldn’t be with him for almost a week.
“sylus, why don’t you get some rest first?”
“alone?”
“yes.” you pulled away. “i have to make dinner.”
“we can order dinner.”
“go and rest. i’ll wake you up when dinner’s ready.”
“yes, ma’am,” he said, leaving you with a kiss before disappearing upstairs.
