System Discovery and Presentation
We/I've been wanting to make more serious in depth posts so here goes one. It's about system discovery mainly.
When we first discovered our system a few years ago we had three irl system friends. One was our partner. Within these systems there were many relationships, as they'd known about their systems for several years. Part of the reason the host of the time (N) discovered us was how excluded we'd become from all these close relationships and the loneliness that triggered.
However after N discovered the system (through some talks from friends and tracking symptoms after a while, may discuss in depth later) we felt a lot of pressure to be more similar to the irl systems we knew. Nothing they did btw, just our own brain.
How this presented itself was by not giving us enough time to process our system, and work out functioning fully. We tried force switches, present alters as attractive options for any form of relationships with the other system and definitely rushed into things, in an effort to "catch up".
We've known about the system for 2 years now. And we're only just beginning to shift away from the mindset we developed in this time of early system discovery. It was very centred around how we appeared and existed externally in social relationships. We neglected working out inner workings, helping alters cope with a variety of things, reducing amnesia and improving communication in favour of focusing on this outer presentation.
Now we're slowly working through that and trying to focus on functionality within the system. Part of this is restarting our simply plural (something I plan to talk about later).
I felt like some people might be able to relate, because in online system spaces especially there seems to be a similar tone in expectations about systems. Most posts I see about simply plural, or system roles, for example, seem to be centred around how it's viewed by external influences. And no hate to these posts, I enjoy them and they're helpful. However it seems to neglect some aspects really important to system good, at least for us.
That's all for now, thank you
