A few years ago we stumbled upon the extraordinary collection of Warsaw’s nonexistent Natural History Museum. It is said that the idea of establishing such an institution appeared as early as 200 years ago, along with the first objects for such a prospective museum. On the outskirts of Warsaw we encountered a large sheet metal warehouse that was home to thousands of exhibits-to-be. Hundreds of shelves, and thousands of drawers, filled with exotic species of plants and animals. A stunning view. Most of the items, catalogued by hand by their discoverers, have a great historical value. And certainly also a unique value in terms of visual experience.
