Create a believable Glee multiple

In many ways, creating a new character on the Glee universe, whether it's a twin or a sibling, is very similar to creating a regular Original Character. However there are a few important aspects about their creation that should not be forgotten, and may help you to create a better and more believable character.

Your character's canon family is a great starting point for you to begin your character creation. Their relationship with their parents -or lack of a good one- can be the foundations of the personality you're looking to use, much like it happens with Glee characters themselves. It's very likely that your Puckerman twin will be influenced by their father just as much as Puck was, in either a similar or completely opposite way. The same goes for Santana and her abuela, Rachel and her supportive gay dads, Finn and his single mother and so on.

It's important to respect these family constructions and relationships, not only to make your character more believable inside  the Glee character, but also to respect the canon characters of your RP.

Obviously, twin and multiple RPs are AU by definition, and things might change, but try to always be as close to what Glee gave us as possible.

RP FAMILY

Similar to your canon family, the family you have inside your roleplay can be essential on your character construction. The one thing you must always do before creating a character is reading your siblings' biographies. It's important to know how your siblings act, and what is happening with their lives before you start writing something that might be either too similar or very contrasting to something already established. Learn how to work with what the other players already gave you.

Communication is key. Every multiples rp has an ooc chat or blog, and you should use that to always talk to the players inside your family. That will help you to build new family relationships, family headcanons, plan ahead, even decide which twin should reblog that particular picture.

You should always discuss with your family partner what kind of relationship your characters might have, and when writing a biography for your character you must never Godmod someone from your own family. Sentences like "He was different from his brothers because..." and "while her sisters were doing x, my character was doing y" should be avoided at all times.

FACECLAIM

There is a big discussion on how accurate your fc choices must be concerning ethnicity, and in my opinion, I say very. Representation of POC is an important subject and should be treated with all the respect you can give it. You would never cast a white man to play  Mercedes Jones' brother, so it's important to also not cast a white woman as Blaine Anderson's sister.

There are many RPH out there that can help you find the perfect FC for your character, but if you want to do it by yourself, you should remember a few things.

Hair color is close to irrelevant.

Focus more on the shape of your FC's face. The chin, their eyes, nose, lips.

Siblings may have different skin colors, but the change should not be drastic.

Shay Mitchell can't biologically be a Lopez or a Puckerman or a Chang and Lucy Hale can't biologically be an Anderson, but adoptions are always an option.

NAME

The biggest mistake when it comes to naming your multiple is to choose a name is choosing one that is inconsistent to what you see on the show. I understand shooting for originality, but you can't ignore canon information for the sake of a different name. Work with what you know instead. We know that Rachel Berry was named after a television character, so chances are that Leroy and HIram's second child would also have a name that relates to one of their favorite things, just as the Fabray's would be more likely to choose names that are just as elegant and traditional as  Lucy and Frannie. Obviously, there are characters that you know little about and their name choices are more difficult to understand and build patterns, but when it's possible, that pattern should be followed. A tool that you can use when choosing your name is behind the name. In there you can find popular names divided by origins and nationality, which can be even more helpful when looking for Jewish names for Puckerman's or Hispanic names for Lopez's.

PERSONALITY

Because of the big number of multiples and twins rps, it's now very easy to find different twins with similar personalities. Characters like badass Hudson twin, badass Anderson twin, skank and nerdy Fabray twins, sweet Lopez twin... are the kind of characters that you can find in almost every rp nowadays. These are often considered to be cliches, and admins might be reluctant to add them to their roleplay.

It's important to know that you can follow that direction, and if you want to, you should -I've done it myself in more than one occasion. My mascot is Charlie Fabray for a reason- but don't let these cliches control your character for you. Let your character be badass, but not 'badass' be your character. Create something you enjoy playing, and develop them in your own way. Use your own headcanons and turn them into something other than that title, something more complex than that. Originality is really important, but it also comes naturally.

can you give me any tips on playing Phoebe Buffay, please?

I never played her, but I can try… This is mostly some random facts you should remember when playing her. You can find more information on her in here.

Phoebe is aggressive and rough. She lived on the streets for most of her life and that reflects on her behavior.

That doesn’t make her a bad person. She’s altruist and genuinely concerned about other’s well being.

She has difficulty maintaining relationships. She didn’t have a long lasting relationship for 9 out of 10 seasons of friends, and twice pushed Monica away, almost to the point of ending their friendship.

Music is a tricky thing. While she’s a folk singer, she shows a great deal of interest on heavy metal.

Phoebe is unique and that displays on every aspect of her life. That means her clothes, interests, furniture… Try to stay away from anything ordinary.

Phoebe is very sexually active, and into “weird stuff”. Her words.

Family is a tricky thing for Phoebe. Her father left her when she was a kid and still kept his distance even after finding her again, her adoptive mother -at the time assumed biological- killed herself, her step-father went to jail causing her to live on the street, her twin sister doesn’t speak to her, and the only family members she talks to are her half-brother and new found biological mother. Phoebe doesn’t seem to hold a grudge against her mothers and step-father, but was deeply hurt but her father and sister.

Phoebe can be childlike to a fault, to the point of still believing in Santa.

Phoebe believes in reincarnation, and talks about her old lives often.

She doesn’t agree with most scientific facts.

Phoebe is a heavy drinker, though never showed any signs of dependence.
