The hospital was all too familiar- white washed walls, the smell of sterilization and the sickly undercurrent of sickness, the gleaming tile, the beep of machines and the thrum of nurses and doctors bustling hurriedly through the halls. She’d been stabilized in her condition for a long time, no more months and months of hospitalization, but the nature of an autoimmune disease meant every so often her body tried to destroy itself, which meant IVs and medicine and a few days with doctors rushing around her. She was a day or two from being released (again) when they wheeled him in. He had scrapes on his knees and what appeared to be a sling on his arm and pretty full lips. It wasn’t often someone her age showed up at the hospital, at least not at the bed beside her. And if they did, there was never a guarantee they’d be all that attractive, or friendly, or willing to chat up a lonely scrap of a girl. Still, it had to be worth a try, right? He was doped up on painkillers and had the dumbest smile that had ever been smiled on his face, but Mina couldn’t help finding it sort of endearing. She decided it was probably best to wait until it wore off to talk to him, having discovered in the past that having a conversation with someone taking serious painkillers was sort of as useful as trying to tell a cat what to do. A few hours later saw her bored as hell, visiting hours long passed and the lights dimmed, night having settled heavy around the hospital. But that didn’t make it any easier to fall back asleep, her sleep schedule totally fucked by her incarceration, by the drugs that had been pumped into her system. There was a slight groan as she pushed herself to her feet, finally freed of her IV and given the okay to wander around a little- she figured they knew they couldn’t stop her, these days. The sound of someone stirring startled her, had her glancing over to the bright eyed boy with a tentative grin. “Oh, hey. Sorry, did I wake you up? I was just getting fucking bored,” she admitted both brightly and bluntly, had never been great at holding her tongue.
