The city had been hot and crowded all day, and while Kennedy was thrilled that Pride was happening in full swing, he still ached for the quiet. That was how he found himself walking along the much quieter sidewalks a few blocks from his apartment building, on the hunt for that one wine that a colleague had introduced him to last week. He was about to duck in to the tiny wine store he liked best when a familiar face caught his eye.
And maybe he should've kept his head down and passed by, but...Valley was a person. A friend even, perhaps, after all of this. And even though there were clear boundaries between them, boundaries that looked more like bank ledger lines, they'd spent a bit of time together. So he raised his hand to call her attention. "Valley," he said, offering a smile. "Hey. Taking a walk away from the party downtown?"
