It didn’t matter if she was at the cafe, the library or even just walking through the hallways, it seemed like everyone was talking about it. The story of those students who had heard the noises from the caves was the hottest topic, and Jieun had to admit that it sounded interesting. Obviously, exploring was probably a dumb idea, and she’d probably get in trouble for it, but only if she got caught, right? So many of her classmates seemed content just talking about it and not seeking any answers, but she was certain someone had to be behind it, another stupid prank possibly.
Despite all her years here at the academy, she’d never gone to the caves. She never really saw a reason to, but this seemed like the perfect opportunity for it. Exploring alone probably wasn’t a good idea, but she couldn’t just ask randomly if someone wanted to go with her. If they told the staff that, she could get in trouble, and she didn’t want that. Besides, how different could it be from exploring the forest? She’d done that countless times so this shouldn’t be too far from what she was used to.
Once Sunday had come around she finally found a break between all her work to set out for the cave. It wasn’t a terribly familiar path, she at least knew her way through the forest up to the cliffs. When she had first arrived, she remembered taking this path but stopping just in sight of the cave entrance. Back then she was too afraid to go near them, and even now as she stared at the mouth of the entrance she still felt a bit of that chill. Not that it was enough to make her turn away now though.
With only a flashlight and her phone in hand, she slowly approached the entrance. Nothing strange thus far, she wondered if maybe those students that had originally reported the incident were lying. As she got closer she could hear the faint sound of a voice singing. It was completely unrecognizable, but there was something ... strange about it. There was something mournful about the song and she stood there at the entrance, completely fixed on the music.
She wasn’t sure how long she had been standing there listening, but when she came to her senses she flashed her flashlight inside briefly, as if she could see the source from the entrance alone. The sound was clearly farther back in the cave and she steeled herself to go in taking careful steps. She had barely made it in when she heard footsteps behind her. She turned, letting out an inner sigh of relief when she it was another student.
“Don’t suppose you’re here for a casual stroll, are you?”
