this place had become more than he could have ever imagined. a real community, working together to disguise the end of life as all knew it as something akin to what it all used to be. if he'd heard right, there were teachers; real people teaching real little people. individuals appointed the job of searching for more. someone out there, fighting for the people who couldn't any more. something he wanted to do, had tried to do, only...
here he was, in the library, wasting his time organizing books.
and it's not an unwelcome feeling by any stretch. if if he were to be honest with himself, it's a welcome retreat, a bit of familiarity that didn't feel so sickening in the pit of his stomach. once upon a time, a library had been his safe space, every book a home. liam runs his fingers down the spine of a well read tale of history and smiles small to himself.
he'd forgotten how it felt to feel so at ease.
only, it's not a feeling that remains when footsteps shuffling behind other shelves catches his attention. it's an instinct, how he reaches for the blade hidden on his belt under his jacket, so used to watching his own back, expecting the worst at every turn. it isn't until he notices that the footsteps belonged to a figure he'd seen around town that he exhales, returning to his usual slouched and lax demeanor, guarded in his own fashion.
"y'know, i wonder how our story is gonna change when it's told down the line," he mumbles, holding up the book in an attempt to begin some form of conversation. "if it'll get more stoic and... i dunno, poetic, i guess."
