Late Nights | 1975 | James & Lily
All in all, Lily had definitely experienced better days. Although nothing particularly bad had happened, it just hadn’t been one of her best days. She hadn’t gotten as high on an assignment as she would have liked and she’d stained her favorite sweater. A quick charm had fixed the latter problem and her marks were high enough that the first didn’t matter, but it had just further cemented her dreary mood for the day. All she needed now was a hot drink and to sit by the fireplace for a while. That was something that could turn this day around if she let it. It hadn’t been hard to secure a cup of hot cocoa and nab her favorite worn chair. Her mum had just sent her a book she’d picked up recently, and losing herself in that seemed better than any alternative for the moment. Lily managed a small smile at the antics of some of the younger students in the room. Eventually her melancholic mood faded through the night until she was at least over the day.
As she set down her cup, now cold and only half-full, she realized that everyone else had gone to bed. She vaguely remembered saying goodnight to her friends, but she’d been so lost in her book that she hadn’t realized how late it had gotten. She finally closed the book and set that aside too, only realizing a second later that not everyone had gone to bed. “Shouldn’t you be in bed by now, Potter?”
