Spanish Flat

Spanish Flat on Lake Berryessa was extremely quiet on a warm day in mid April — very different to how I’m sure it will look now that summer is nearly here. It was great to explore this campground and fishing area before the crowds arrived. House on the hill

Sense of spring

Menzies fiddleneck and purple vetch grow near a fallen palm tree As I wandered around an abandoned and overgrown portion of Spanish Flat Campground at Lake Berryessa, I found an oak woodland covered in foxtails and invasive vetch as well as a surprising variety of flowers growing wild alongside forgotten pieces of roadway and cement pads. I can only guess at what this hilltop headland looked like…

Chinatown from the Stockton Tunnel I don’t think I could enjoy living in a bustling place like San Francisco for very long, but I do love visiting the city because everywhere I turn I find things I never get to see at home in the suburbs.
