AND RIGHT NOW YOU ARE SLOWING ME DOWN, DOWN
Talullah and her younger sister, Whitney, grew up in a lovely family with two parents who loved them. They had a good life while their parents were both working good jobs and had a steady, decent paycheck coming in for each. But in January Talullah got a call while attending one of her classes at UCHB, her parents had been in a car accident and were in the intensive care unit at their nearest hospital. She immediately got her sister from school and drove them both to the hospital where they were being treated, but they were too late. Their mother had passed away in the hospital bed while their father never regained consciousness from the crash scene.
THE LIGHT THAT SHINES IN THE DARK, I COULDN’T SEE
Tallulah had to drop out of college to look after her sister who now attends UCHB, she’s working two jobs to try and stay on top of family bills and keep the house their parents left to them.
She was supposed to finish her classes in Film Studies and move out to L.A for a summer internship which was likely to lead to a full time career working for a production company, but she couldn’t leave her sister here and she wasn’t going to drag her out to L.A. Tallulah was popular, a cheerleader in High School with a boyfriend on the Football team, like a regular American Teen. All she wanted was to be happy and to be someone worth knowing. In college, she moved onto another boyfriend who was handsome but ultimately didn’t treat her right. That’s when she got involved with an older, married man. It wasn’t right but she couldn’t seem to stop herself. When her parents found out they could barely look at her, everything seemed to fall apart and their relationship never recovered.
She regrets so many of her decisions. She just needed her parents to be proud of her but they passed away before that could happen, so now she’s taken their role in trying to raise Whitney the best she can.

PAST
TW: attempted suicide, TW: cancer, TW: bullying, TW: abuse
Sydney Eliana Delgado was born and grew up in Santa Ana, California. Her grandmother, Elena, immigrated to the states at the end of the 70’s with her child, Sydney’s mother. She started a café where the menu was based on her own secret family recipes. It was a huge hit! People went nuts for her food. When Sydney’s mother was diagnosed with cancer, they unfortunately had to sell the family business to be able to help her afford treatment. After six months of chemo, she unfortunately passed away.
Sydney was left with her grandmother, and as she grew older she came curious to how her grandmother had managed to get into the states, and why her grandfather was not a part in her life. Her grandmother told her that she had married a abusive man, whom she left soon after giving birth to Sydney’s mother. On her travels she met a woman whom she fell in love with. It turned out, the lovely neighbor, Cynthia, for the past 16 years had been her grandmothers secret girlfriend, and as soon as Sydney knew the truth about her grandmother and her girlfriend, they moved in together.
Their neighborhood was not the largest in size, and neither was Sydney’s school. Soon after everybody realized what was going on, the already existing teasing of Sydney grew into bullying due to her home situation. Having a gay grandmother was not something a lot of people were used to, and it eventually led to her attempted suicide
PRESENT
TW: shooting
After Sydney got out of the hospital, her grandmother told her that they were moving to a new place. A small town in Montana called Roxbury. This was the perfect way for them to start over again, in a town where nobody knew them and their story. It was not many days after they moved in, that Sydney and Cynthia had to run down to the mall to grab a few things for the new house. It was only moments after the shooting began that Cynthia was hit by a bullet to the chest, in a attempt to save Sydney’s life. After everything was over, she was rushed to the hospital where she was rushed into surgery.

PAST
Back in England Kathryn was known for being pretty quiet. At least that is how things had been like in the end, when she’d let everything go. She always felt like she was going through the motions rather than living. Kathryn didn’t want to tell anyone, but in reality she felt like she was drowning. After that tragic night, she’d had no friends, no social life, and most days nothing to do. Kathryn wondered how she would even survive, because the fact that she had nobody to talk to really started to get to her after a while. Kathryn wanted more than anything to have a fresh start, and a chance to be happy again. She wanted to forget her past, and move forward. Kathryn wanted the simple things, like friends and to fall in love.
Now in Roxbury Kathryn is determined to turn her life around. When her parents told her she was allowed to go to America, it had been the blessing that she had waited for. She was finally getting the chance to be someone else, and turn things around. Kathryn became obsessed with trying to make friends and be happy. Adjusting to Montana hadn’t been as easy as she hoped, but she refused to give up. It was going to be the place where she found herself, it was going to be the place that saved her. Kathryn was going to make her Senior year of high school matter.
PRESENT
After the shooting, Kathryn found herself beginning to fold into herself again. She didn’t really know how to deal with everything, or who to talk to about her feelings. She’s been working at the mall that day, and had witnessed most of the violence. Kathryn found herself unable to cope with the horrible images, and found herself having a lot of nightmares. She just wanted to make things stop, but was unsure how to do so. Now Kathryn spends most of her time alone at her aunt’s.

HARMONY JONES is SIXTEEN and is a JUNIOR who is attending ROXBURY HIGH. She looks just like JANEL PARRISH and is currently TAKEN.
“But if you like causing trouble up in hotel rooms, And if you like having secret little rendezvous, If you like to do the things you know that we shouldn’t do, Then baby, I’m perfect. Baby, I’m perfect for you.”
PAST
Ever since Harmony was young, she has always been treated like a princess. Being from one of the richest families in town, she was always able to get everything she wanted. Her parents were known to spoil her rotten, and many of the other kids used to be very jealous of everything she had. Even with all her families money, her parents had chosen to send her to public school, because they felt that she was more likely to get a less biased education there.
Once high school hit, being beautiful and smart had made Harmony very popular in school. Everyone in the town knew her, and most students wanted to be her friend. Boys were always flirting with her, and she was always coming up with new and creative ways to turn them down. Harmony was always trying her best to be the best that she can be. Ever since she was small she wanted more than anything to leave Montana and to become a famous actress.
PRESENT
After the shooting Harmony has found herself not feeling safe in Roxbury. She tries to spend as much time with friends as she can, because she no longer likes the idea of being alone. Although the girl is still bubbly, she has been deeply affected by what has happened. Part of her still wants more than anything to be an actress, but part of her also wants to stay in Roxbury where she will hopefully not have to deal with more heartbreak.
It does not matter that she was home during the shooting, she was still deeply shocked once she heard about it. Even though Harmony feels like hiding, on the outside she pretends like everything is alright. She can often be found at parties, or around town having fun with her friends. Harmony is always up for having fun, and getting into the occasional trouble. She is unsure what exactly she is going to do when she graduates, but she hopes that it will be something big.

♥ CONNOR ANDREWS: friend
Leila Sharpe is eighteen and is a freshman who is attending Los Angeles University. She looks just like Arden Cho and is taken.
“You spend half of your life trying to fall behind You’re using your headphones to drown out your mind It was so easy and the words so sweet You can’t remember, you try to move your feet”
Story:
Leila was born Yoo-Jin Son, the biological daughter of a nineteen year old who wasn’t in a place in her life that she could properly raise a child. She was quickly formerly adopted by the Sharpes, an arrangement that had been worked out in the months leading up to her birth, and she left the hospital with the name Leila Yoo-Jin Sharpe. Her father left before she was old enough to remember him, but her mother always insisted that it was for the best. She lived happily with her mom and soon an older brother, who was adopted under different circumstances than she had been, in Oakland just outside of San Francisco.
One day, when Leila was eight, her brother insisted on stopping by the comic book shop on their way home from school. Not wanting to be late to her acting lessons, she decided to walk home by herself. She didn’t think much of the man waiting outside her apartment building until he asked if she was Leila, and said that her mom was held up at work and asked him to take Leila to her lesson. He clearly knew intimate details he couldn’t have known unless he had actually talked to her mom, Leila figured, so she got in his car. He was taking a route her mom didn’t usually take, a longer route. She told him she was going to be late to her lesson. The rest after that was a chaotic blur, as she came to understand that going to acting class was the least of her worries, because she was being taken far away from Oakland and everyone she knew. Her father was kidnapping her.
The next three months should have been horrible, but it was kind of fun. She got to travel to several different states and lived in a cute little motor home. Sure, she couldn’t go out in public and on the rare chance she did see someone other than her father he forced her to go by a different name, but she looked at every opportunity to go out as a chance to play a character and work on her improv skills. Besides, at least when she was with her dad she didn’t have to go to school. He wasn’t the abusive jerk her mom had always claimed he was. Her dad was insanely nice, and if anything her mom was the one who was awful for turning her against him.
They were almost out of money. Living while trying not to be found by the police, her dad couldn’t really hold down a job. Desperate for cash, he asked Leila if he could use the money her mom had set aside for her college fund so far and she quickly agreed. It was a risky move, and one that got them caught. Before she knew what was happening, Leila was being reunited with her mother at a police station. But she didn’t want to go back to Oakland. She missed her friends, and she had tried and failed to contact her brother several times, but her dad had fed her a ton of lies about her mother during the forced separation from her family. Leila’s mother tried everything to rebuild their bond, including involving specialists, but the young girl wasn’t interested in letting anyone help. Not even her brother could convince her to let her mom back in. Things got even worse when her mom decided to move the entire family to Connecticut and, soon after getting there, fell in love with another woman. Leila didn’t care that her mom was gay or bi or whatever, just that she liked someone after everything that had happened with Leila’s dad, and she didn’t understand why that upset her when she didn’t consider what had happened kidnapping.
While shutting her mom and now her mom’s girlfriend out, Leila wasn’t doing much better with other people. It wasn’t that she treated them badly, but she didn’t know how to handle them. Subconsciously, she knew what her dad had done was bad. She still had nightmares about the way she had been taken and being trapped in the RV. And although her dad wasn’t a stranger, not technically, he had felt like that when he had taken her. But it was worse, because she should have trusted him. Silently, she began struggling with that almost as soon as she came home. But instead of dealing with it, she fell back on her safety net. Her brother wasn’t coping well with what had happened to his family either, and had grown insanely protective of his sister. So once she was reunited with her brother and her mom, she stuck to her brother’s side like glue. He made her feel safe and he felt much more comfortable knowing she was around. Their unhealthy way of dealing with the trauma worked, in their minds, and so they never saw a reason to change things. All their mom saw was that they were really close.
With Leila wanting to be an actress and her brother loving all things animation, they decided they would go to college in the same city. He was a year older than her and New York City was about an hour commute from where they lived, which meant he was only a short train ride away if she ever needed him during her senior year of high school. Asher got accepted into a great program, and Leila had a group of friends in the drama club and was doing a good job handling social situations without him. When she got pulled out of class and sat down in the principal’s office with her drama instructor, she was worried she had done something wrong. She never expected to be told her brother had been killed in a hit and run accident.
Asher was the one thing still connecting Leila to her family and so she has been genuinely trying with her mom since he died. They’re not exactly close, but Leila has been helping out around the house and trying to be there while she goes through her grief. It was awhile before Leila herself was ready to go back to school. But even despite her developing relationship with her mom, she can’t bring herself to stay in New York for college. Once Leila got into the swing of things, she applied to schools in California and was accepted to Los Angeles University. After graduation, she said her goodbyes and returned to the state she had spent more than half her life in. For the first time in her life, she is on her own and she can’t help but compare it to the three weeks she spent living in the RV. She can’t help but be both terrified and excited about what her college years have in store.
Connection to Clara:
Leila saw Clara at a bus stop just off campus - she was the last one to see the seventeen year old the night she disappeared.
Due to her own past with kidnapping, this case has brought up a lot of different feelings for her.
