she had heard from someone, could have bruce or perhaps clint she honestly couldn’t remember the voice on the phone not when her head was already so full, that natasha was back that somehow natasha had returned to them safe and sound and alive. she might not remember who told her but she remembers how her knees buckled at the news, how she nearly dropped her phone from the news, but she didn’t. no, she held it together and merely whispered that whenever natasha got the chance she’d like to see her. that morgan would like to see her. and that was that. she hung up the phone and focused on trying to live this new life.
it could have been days or even a week since that phone call, she was a bit busy with her daughter and managing the phone calls full of condolences and the visitors with the pitying stares, when there was a knock at the door. with a heavy sigh and a quick kiss to morgan’s head she was pushing herself up and away from the kitchen table and to the front door. she was fully prepared with her hair pushed back in a ponytail and a calm smile to greet whoever it was but that changed when she noticed who was at the door.
“natasha.” the name whooshes out of her before she can catch herself. dark eyes raking over the woman’s features to be sure that she was truly okay and that she was actually here and once she was satisfied with her assessment she was wrapping her arms around the woman and bringing in for a tight hug.
“you’re back.”
