while i was thinking about the scam I was thinking about how much of our data is stolen by companies. American companies. But then there’s so much debate over TikTok and how “China is stealing our data!” Which is funny bc it’s basically saying “we can steal it but they can’t”
also is your data stolen over there? Like if you google a family members name can you see their whole address like over here?
we do have data leaks/hacks sometimes (my internet provider had one a few months ago and it was a HUGE scandal bc it included things like social security numbers and passport details) but like... we don't have THAT
here, you're not getting farther than linkedin information. unless someone specifically posts their address (or takes photos in front of their front door that you play geoguessr with), you're not getting your hands on their address. also most people live in apartments even if (ESPECIALLY IF) they're rich, in which case they'd share their front door with at least five other people
another noteworthy thing is that some european countries (mostly in the northwest) dgaf. about anything. celebrities genuinely just walk around without bodyguards/protection/cars because no one cares about them. my former prime minister literally biked (🚲 not 🏍️) everywhere. I've ran into several celebrities at restaurants, near hotels, in parks, on the streets, everywhere. no one ever interacts with them. i feel like in other places there'd be stalkers or at least one paparazzi guy following them around but no one gives a damn here 😭
this dgaf attitude is most prominent with celebrities but it also applies to regular people. having someone's address isn't a big deal bc no one goes to someone's home to harass them (unless the person in the house is a gang member). i know other countries have men who stalk women but we don't really have that. it's also extremely rare for a residence to be robbed.
