Bank Hols and Board Games
The first proper Bank Holiday weekend of the year and it was a long one (Friday-Monday). I feel like we need more of these for sure. It also helps that we’ve “sprung forward” so it stays lighter out later. With this whole bathroom renovation, we’ve not actually had a lot of time to play board games, but has given me PLENTY of time to order them. The weekend has gone like this:
Friday : We had two friends around in an attempt to teach them some games and have a few drinks. During the day I did a full head-to-toe clean of the house which meant the rest of the weekend I could relax. I ordered Love Letter in an attempt to teach them something light and fun. Didn’t think it’d work with 2 players, but it surprised me when Rik and I took it out for a spin to understand the rules beforehand. Happy to say that it was a hit: so much so that one of our friends asked to borrow it to teach their family over the weekend. Offered to let him keep it but he just wanted to borrow it so fingers crossed it all comes back in one piece (not that there’s a lot component wise or anything). They didn’t end up getting to ours until almost 10pm, so we started learning Great Western Trail. Was about time as we had it set up for over a week at that point with the intention to play it. Still have yet to finish it (but that’s another story).
Saturday : We picked up flooring for the bathroom (and a coffee). Rik set to laying the floor and I went to go meet some girlfriends for dinner and a drink.
Sunday : We spent a lovely Easter Sunday at my Brother-in-law’s house with his wife’s family. She made a lovely roast dinner with Turkey as the main dish. I tried a chocolate bread and butter pudding for the first time and I honestly have no words to describe how orgasmic that dish was. I could have that for pudding EVERY night from now until the end of time...We were meant to leave earlier so that Rik could work on the bathroom, but they kept opening bottles of wine and wanted us to stick around. We were having such a good time that we thought we’d stay. When we eventually got home, we split a final bottle of wine and went to bed.
Today (Monday) : I’m being lazy because I’m really not wanting to go to work tomorrow. We woke up around 10, went to take our shower’s at my MIL’s, and then headed to Camberley for a coffee and a bit of a walk around. Went into some charity shops and The Works in an attempt to find some games but we didn’t really find anything of interest. Was nice to get out. I’ve now walked the dog and will start dinner shortly (we stopped by M&S on the way home and got some Japanese food - Katsu Curry - which I can’t wait to have for dinner). Honestly spent 90% of today in bed on the laptop, listing and buying board games and watching Dawson’s Creek while Rik tiles the bathroom.
