A truck bomb blast in Kabul, Afghanistan’s diplomatic zone on Wednesday killed at least 90 and wounded around 400 people, including 11 Americans. Nine local Afghan Embassy guards were killed. The Resurgence of the Taliban (Trailer)

In late September, the Taliban launched an offensive against Kunduz, a provincial capital in northern Afghanistan, capturing key buildings and freeing hundreds of prisoners from the city’s jail. The offensive sparked a fierce battle between the militants and government forces, supported by US airstrikes. After several days of fighting, Afghan troops recaptured the city, and took down the Taliban's flag from the central square. American planes targeted Taliban positions, but at the beginning of October, a hospital run by medical charity Doctors Without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières) was hit, killing 22 hospital staff and patients, with many seriously injured. The Pentagon later admitted that the strike was a mistake. Gaining exclusive access to the Taliban, VICE News filmmaker Nagieb Khaja spoke to fighters that briefly took control of Kunduz — the first major city to fall to the group since it was ousted from power in 2001.

Taliban recently launched a new offensive against the Afghan National Army in the region of Kunduz, Afghanistan and captured the ANA District HQ In Northern Kunduz by using modern western weapons. Footage of the battle released by the Taliban shows them using a captured Humvee and FN SCAR rifles during the takeover of the base. Pictures of captured ANA FN SCAR rifles and Humvees were already shown by Taliban fighters on Twitter in May 2015 but this is actually the first time video footage of them using it in battle has been released in High Definition clearly visible. The actually number of modern weapons taliban recently got their hands on is unknown at this time but it seems they are getting more and more of them with each ANA base or checkpoint that falls.

Members of the 2nd French Foreign Parachute Regiment came under intense Dshk fire during a firefight in a heavy battle with Taliban in Afghanistan. Parts of the unit where pinned down by the fire while other managed to change their position before the fire intensefied. This video shows pretty well what it is like to be pinned down under suppressing fire by a heavy machine gun.
