Part 2 of 2:
Alright, so we spent a second night in the hut, with false hopes that we could get to Tafi for free, but it’s all good. We find a tro tro that’s headed to Hohoe, which saves us some money because taxi’s are more expensive than tro tro’s and we took a taxi from Hohoe to Wli before. Buuuuut, this tro tro decides to stop at the border between Ghana and Togo to pick up these two women who have tons of huge bags (of some product, I’m assuming) We wait literally 30-40 minutes for them to load the tro tro and do whatever else, and then when we’re finally headed to Hohoe, we sit for another 10-15 minutes while the lady argues against the price the driver is trying to charge her. We didn’t know our price yet because tro tro’s never tell you the price up front, unless you ask, but it’s fine because you mostly know how much it should cost. So at some point on the way to Hohoe, the tro tro guy asks us to pay. We ask how much and he tells us 10 cedi. 10 cedi!!?? The shared taxi we took cost 12 cedi! How could a tro tro possibly cost 10?? David argues with the guy for a little bit, then the guy stops arguing for a while. Then this happens again. David tells the guy we want to pay 5 cedi but then we realize that we should really only pay like 2-3 cedi. Right before we get off, David geniously thinks to ask one of the ladies how much she’s paying. 1.50 she tells us! So David takes out 3 cedi (paying for the both of us) and puts the rest of his money away. He gives the guy 3 cedi, explaining 1.50 for each of us, and the guy gets mad. “No no no. This is bad money,” he says. David’s like, “Well you can take 3 cedi or you can take nothing.” (he copied me from my hair braiding incident! haha) I argue a little bit too, but then we just walk away after giving the guy the 3 cedi. Mannn! haha 10 cedi! Really?
At least it gave us something to laugh about on our way to Tafi.
So we get off the tro tro at the bottom of this hill that’s 5 km away from the monkey sanctuary. We had to ride on the back of a motorcycle to get to the actual monkey sanctuary! Pretty cool! Overall, the monkey sanctuary was a great experience. I actually fed a monkey, which I was reluctant to do at first, but am definitely happy I did. As you can see by the pictures, some monkeys thought it was a good idea to actually jump on people to get the bananas. I didn’t feed those monkeys! J We tried to go to the Kente Village afterwards but the motorcycle ride is just way too expensive, so we head home.
An awesome weekend overall!
