james flint for that ask meme?
aaaaaaaaalrighty mate
What I like about them - undeniably passionate, loving, and canonically queer
What I dislike about them - can’t hug him irl
Favourite moment - all the flashbacks in s2, when he allies with vane, the diplomacy between his crew and the maroons, when he and silver catch the shark, [gestures wildly to the entire series]
Least favourite moment - [sobs] gates…
A situation with this character that I want to see explored more - precanon flinthamiltons & postcanon fates
An interesting AU for this character - CLOAKED NACELLES (star trek lol)
A crossover - give Captain Nemo a time machine and let the Nautilus and the Walrus be friends
OTP (or OT3+ etc…. just… favourite ship) - FLINTHAMILTONS!!! and SilverFlint of course
Other ships? - well there’s the Ranger, Royal Lion, Fancy, Queen Anne’s Revenge, and ofc l’Urca de Lima (but tbh FlintVane is an interesting one)
BROTP - MADI, pre-Rogers Eleanor Guthrie, Miranda!!!, Mr. Scott, the entire Ranger ot3/ot4, and Max despite having minimal contact throughout the series (which still boggles my mind)
NOTP - woodes rogers can fuck right off
An assortment of headcanons! - he always made a point to take books from captured prizes and if any of his crew happened to be illiterate, he taught them how to read and write as best they could so they had the ability to tell their own stories.
black sails night at the museum au where plucky miniature roman gladiator iohannes argentus accidentally finds his way to the pirate diorama and falls in love with the unendingly byronic miniature pirate captain flint
if i could duplicate all the affectionate actions that you see the bikers doing in this show to the pirates of black sails i would in a fucking heartbeat
they hug each other so much and good GOD all those pirate crews needed to just hug it out sometimes

please for the love of fuck it does not matter how many chances writers or creators gave us to interpret a character as queer, our interpretations as queer people do not matter when it comes to queer representation.
the interpretations of people who are not us are the ones that matter when the issue of queer representation is in question.
these people won’t listen to earnest creators who are supposedly on our side. they won’t watch hours of bonus material just to glean for everything short of “yes this character is queer” okay? they simply won’t.
these people need explicit on-screen confirmation of a character’s sexuality and/or gender for them to be queer, and even then, they can and do still find a scintillating myriad of ways to ignore canon evidence of queerness, often slinging accusations of abuse in tumblr fandom context to de-legitimize same sex attraction. (ftr tumblr fandom is not the full extent of fandom and your discourse arguments would benefit by realizing this.)
my point is, you have to think outside of yourself in arguments of queer representation if you are queer. you have to think like a straight person. you have to think like a cis person. and you have to think like someone who will go to any length to deny what is right in front of their eyes even if it is canon.
know your enemy and you will know your truth all the better.
like i honestly cannot even fathom how pointless “x character is queer you stupisd l/g/b/t-phobes!!!” discourse is when it’s actually canon’s job to tell people that. not yours. (and certainly not mine!)
if you have to stand on a soap box of evidence and implications and everything that somehow confirms this character as canonically queer, to you, then existing canon obviously didn’t do a good enough job confirming them as queer to other people and the mere fact that you have to soapbox about it is all the evidence anyone needs that the character is not at all canonically queer in the least.
get off your soapbox, and go have fun with your evidence instead of ramming it down people’s throats and accept that canon isn’t enough.
use your energy to write fic, create art, edit gifs, whatever! just don’t give it to an argument that’s already over. and please, PLEASE, do not create hateposts about how said character is DEFINITELY CANONICALLY QUEER because that alienates other queer fans who don’t want to see canon misrepresented and halts their ability to critique the show freely without attracting undue hatred.
thanks!
