No real thoughts on showverse except there's a couple eps where it's kinda cute. The Devil And Peter Tork as well as the 'I want to stay here where it's safe, with you, Michael'. That's sorta cutesy.
I also like a couple of the pics Mike and Peter have together, like that one where Peter's posing him for a closeup pic.
That's kinda all the positive I can say about it.
In a general sense I'm very adverse to enemies to lovers. And similar tropes since I never really viewed them as enemies. But broadly that probably explains why I've always been kind of 'ew' about it lol.
So I've never actually liked/'seen' it-- I take it pretty face value that they didn't like each other because they said so, and others said so, and that's kind of that for me. It's the take they have and the one pm every person who knew them had.
Also totally honest I think Peter would have SPILLLLLED on it. I really don't think he would've protected himself OR Mike on it.
Under the cut for more active negativity towards Torksmith and towards Peter, since it is a 'brutal' honesty lol meme.
My BRUTALLY honest opinion on it is that Torksmith shippers more recently have really made me hate it because of Peter being viewed as a victim to Mike. Saying Mike is 'evil' towards him for things that are ultimately minor slights. Defending Peter because Mike yelled that Peter had shot him with a squib and made Peter cry without actually having an answer if Peter did. That the watch gift when Peter left, something Peter apparently took in good humor, is seen as malicious even though it's the same vein of joke (a cheap watch) that Peter himself made; that The Monkees themselves referenced in song.
Peter did things that were casually rude as well-- walking in front of Mike when he was interviewing after the show is something that Mike would be skewered for if he did it to Peter lbr lol. Peter made jokes that Mike 'didn't know how his guitar worked' while on tour. Most of the things that Mike gets marked as 'evil' or a 'villain' for is piddly shit like this. Peter absolutely was an ass the same way Mike was to him, but if you look at Torksmith it will guaranteed only go one way.
Which I've said in the past and still agree with to some extent being 'whatever'. I think Mike largely made his own bed to lie in when it came to being the bad guy of The Monkees and so there's only so much I can give a shit about it. But it does strike a sour note with me because it really doesn't take long at all to see Peter act like an ass, act a misogynist, act a fatphobe, throughout his life. I'm not really fussed with Mike getting shit because he kinda deserves it, but I do think Peter gets forgiven a lot and it comes out more in Torksmith because he's put up against the 'villain' character.
