imo the minbari eat rocks. they come from a crystal obsessed world and one of the solutions to evolving there is to eat the crystals. sheridan asking delenn if there's enough salt on the flarn is funny because no. there is not enough salt on the flarn. enough salt would make the flarn inedible to a human palate. to the minbari, it is saddening that the other races cannot experience the joyful taste of minerals on the tongue. traditional minbari cooking has a lot to do with acids and solvents to leach specific minerals out of rock deposits. like a museum gift shop ceviche. a handful of dirt is a perfectly acceptable snack. caves with stalactites and stalagmites used to be like candy stores to minbari until they realized consuming the cave formations was unsustainable so they developed methods of artificial cultivation to preserve minbar's natural wonders. a minbari would see a rock and lick it. they crave that mineral.
