The Sound of Music

There are very few things in this world that are universally as powerful as music is. No matter what emotion you are feeling, or wish to feel, there is a song that can reach through the layers of skin and bone and to the very heart of our being. The rhythms change the beat of our hearts and the lyrics speak to our souls, helping us to relate, to understand, to express.

The previous two posts were videos that have on more than one occasion set us into motion.

The first video is a performance by a friend of ours named Tahni Handal. The song, "Take A Look." It's the story of someone who has struggled with not always being the person that society thought was "cool" or "on the right path," but despite never feeling like she was in the right place at the right time she manages to overcome every challenge and become a rockstar. She still doesn't fit into the mold that they want her in, but she doesn't care anymore. Why? Because she is entirely comfortable with who she is. And she rocks the world with her awesome music.

The second video is a performance of Starkid, one of the world's best group of performers ever. If you don't know who they are, you should already be on youtube searching for Starkid videos and watching the amazing musicals that they create (seriously). The song is Status Quo and if you listen to the lyrics you won't need us to tell you why it kicks our butts back up when we get down. This song is the ultimate power song to realizing that being who you are is all that matters. Status Quo is what the world wants for you. But if you dream big, if you push yourself to keep moving on, you can be more than that. You can be everything you want to be and more. You can say no to Status Quo, to conformity, to being who everyone else wants you to be and just be YOU!
