Triads other criminals were one thing. Bullies that were also probenders? Aquene wasn't so certain. The next thing above these poor guys would be civilians -- and she had heard rumors that even some civilian benders had gotten kidnapped and equalized. 

Now she stood at attention in the probending arena as she watched the wolf-bat captain plead for Amon not to take his bending. It was pathetic, she thought, that he even tried to bribe him.

Something stopped her leader as she approached to help toss the others into the pool below. When she passed by Amon he stopped her. "Sister," she heard him say. The tone prompted her to look at him, then look down. There was a faint glow beneath her uniform. 

Alarm lit up her eyes as she look from it to her leader. The wolf-bat looked utterly horrified, too, as his chest also had a faint glow beneath his probending uniform.

"Sir... sir, I... I had no idea." Aquene stammered. 

"Get Kason to toss him over. He's been cleansed of his impurity." That was about as much as a go ahead as she would get. At least some things were sacred to Amon, the soul bond being one of them.

"Yes sir," she said quietly, going to get the other senior officer. She did glance back at him once, though.

What would he do if she sought him out? He knew that the one that caused his chest to light up was an Equalist. Perhaps she should just stay away, and let him move on.

Someone like him should be able to do fine without a pair bond with someone like herself.

A night on the beach for their two month anniversary was something Aquene never expected. It was quiet and warm, and the dinner Tahno had bought for them was perfect. Though the city lights were bright the stars were able to be seen. 

Aquene leaned against his shoulder as they walked along the beach, a small smile on her face. “I probably don’t need to tell you this, but you’re amazing, you know?”

She heard him laugh. When he turned to her to answer she took this as her chance. Lips pressed against his as she kissed him slowly. They hadn’t done more than just the light kisses, and Aquene wanted to move further. Her mouth opened slightly, and she could feel his own move with hers as he groaned softly. 

Good. He wasn’t rejecting this. Her tongue carefully traced along his upper lip before delving into his mouth. Their tongues gently caressed each other, twining and curling around one another. Their first deep kiss like this seemed to last a lifetime, but ended all too soon at the same time. A blush stained her cheeks as she looked at him through her lashes. 

"Wow." Tahno didn’t have a blush on his face, but he did look dazed.

"Um.. would.. would you like to go to my place?" she asked quietly. "For.. for more kisses. I’d rather not.. not be distracted like that while out in the open." And if the kissing led to something else… well, she’d cross that road when they got to it.

It was unexpected, that's what it was. Unexpected yet not entirely unwanted. At her door was a Triple Threat, one of the water benders that she casually flirted with in her own way. Sure, it was mean of her to do so but sexually frustrating someone in a fight was far more fun than she cared to admit. And it was so easy to do with the triple heater and the pericardium meridians.

But this wasn't one of those times. The triad member was at her clinic and he looked tired. Exhausted even. There was something more but Aquene couldn't put her finger on it. Instead she drew him inside and led him upstairs to her apartment. He was seated on the couch as started to go make tea. Or tried to. His pale hand held onto her dark on and tugged her down. She didn't know what to expect exactly, but Tahno laying her on the couch and then using her as a pillow wasn't it. Normally whenever they met up it was for rough, casual sex. This was different. Eventually she relaxed when she realized he wasn't going to hurt her. In fact, he rested his head between her breasts and took a deep breath.

Aquene pet his head slowly as she closed her eyes. The pair stayed curled up on the couch, her hands slowly petting the triad's hair, until they both fell asleep. When she roused some hours later Tahno was looking up at her, just watching her sleep. Seeing he had been caught brought a tired smile to his face. "Thanks, Aquene," he murmured.

She scratched his scalp lightly as she returned the smile. "Anytime, Tahno." His smile turned boyish for a moment as his hand curled around her hip and a devious grin appeared on his face. "Oh no, no, no. No. You're not--" Laughter interrupted Aquene as he started to tickle her.

It ended with both of them laughing, their hands intertwined.

Unexpected, she thought again, but she definitely wouldn't mind a repeat.
