In honour of finishing watching Star Wars: Rebels, I've decided to rate canon Star Wars ships based on how healthy they actually are.

Be mindful, this is coming from a seventeen year old who has never been in a romantic relationship but watches way too much TV.

So, without further ado...

Kanan and Hera (Star Wars: Rebels). Oh wow, who could have seen this coming? (Me) Seriously though, somehow Kanera is the best ship in the history of Star Wars. It works because they're both amazing characters that happen to be ridiculously in love, with mutual respect for each other. AND they talk about their problems. Properly. Like functioning adults. Which is surprisingly rare to find in SW. 10/10

Obi-Wan and Satine (Pre-TPM but mentioned in The Clone Wars). Is this an unlikely number 2? Yes. But I love it. "He loved her enough to give up everything for her" and "she loved him enough not to ask him to" vibes. I honestly believe they could have been no.1 if they had the chance. 9/10

Han and Leia (OG trilogy). I love these two. Sure it's a little troublesome and they argue almost constantly, but they absolutely accept each other and are truly a 'ride or die' type of ship. 9/10

Kylo Ren/Ben Solo and Rey. (Sequel Trilogy) I don't think these two are canon, but it is implied, so they're here. I don't like this ship. I don't love the characters. But I have seen worse. At least they kind of end up on the same side? Idek. Consider this as a placeholder. 3/10

And coming in last...Anakin and Padmé (Prequel trilogy). Do I have to explain this? Do I? Yah, they have some good moments, but really? Let's see, a traumatised 20 year old "chosen one" and a 25 year old with bad judgement get married after a traumatic colosseum experience, a marriage that is FORBIDDEN. They then proceed to keep said marriage, and later child, a secret, leading to a bunch of avoidable drama that ends with one as a barely alive Sith Lord, and the other not alive at all. They get a point for "Across the Stars" though. 4/10

I think I got most of them? The canon ones at least.

The more I think about it, the more I think that Kanan having a Disney Death and coming back out of the Lothal Jedi Temple with Ezra at the end of “A World Between Worlds” would’ve made a lot more sense for Hera and Kanan’s relationship arc. I mean:

- Kanan suddenly permanently dying right after he and Hera were finally starting to take their relationship to the next level makes it feel like their story was thrown off a cliff instead of it being the natural conclusion. It would’ve made a lot more sense if his death was a temporary obstacle for Kanera and they ended up reuniting and getting a happy ending afterward.

- Kanan’s death always felt like a way to make Hera realise that she took Kanan for granted and didn’t prioritise their relationship enough. Which is fine and all, but Hera going through that heartbreak ended up feeling pointless because it was essentially treated as the end of her story (in Rebels). If Kanan came back, Hera would’ve still had to endure the heartbreak of seeing him get blown up, but she would’ve gotten a second chance with Kanan and we would’ve seen payoff through her promising that she wouldn’t take him/their relationship for granted again.

- I’ve always found Kanan’s subtle proposal in Kindred to be weirdly placed if he died for real in Jedi Night. If he returned with Ezra in “A World Between Worlds”, we would’ve gotten payoff for that with Hera finally verbally accepting that proposal.

- We would’ve also gotten payoff for Kanan’s line “I’ll always come back” from S3.

As there's no new chapter of Moonlight & Masquerades today, here's a sneak peek of my current art project - a Regency set of my Kanera historical paper dolls to match the fic. I'm also working on some backdrops to go along with the new outfits!

​Oh my god, I just realized something about Hera and that meilorun fruit in season 1, and now I’m literally crying.

​Remember in season 4 when Hera tells Kanan, "You haven't given me anything since the day we met"? This means that for about 15 years, he literally never gave her a single gift! And then, back in the very first episodes, Zeb and Ezra hands her this meilorun. The boys completely messed up the mission and lost the entire cargo, but they remembered what she asked for.

​Look at her face — she instantly forgets she was supposed to scold them. She holds that fruit like it’s the most precious treasure in the Galaxy. It’s because she so RARELY gets anything meant just for her!

​And when you remember that meiloruns grew back at her home on Ryloth, and she used to steal them from the kitchen as a kid... This fruit is her only connection to a happy childhood before the war took everything away. And the fact that in the series finale, Ezra leaves a meilorun in her cabin with a note saying, "...hope you still like them"...

​My poor girl. She carries the weight of the entire world on her shoulders, giving everything she has without expecting anything in return. And this chaotic space family of hers were the only ones who thought of giving her a little piece of home comfort. I love her so much. 💚💚💚💚

​Look at her nervously biting her lip at the end... 💚 Hera was so stressed for her boys because she realized how insane that TIE fighter stunt actually was. She’s the heart and soul of this crew, I love my girl so much! 💚💚💚
