You gotta keep running... And then you crash.
Good morning kidlets, how are we all doing for your Saturday morning? So it's been a couple of days since Lee and I have landed and hit the ground running in NYC. The weather has been good but humid. Like, Thailand humid. And when Mother Nature deems it necessary that I should feel like I'm taking another shower all day, I get a bit twisted! After our flight was delayed from LA to NYC, it took forever for our baggage to come through... To the point we thought it didn't make it to the plane! We checked in to our hotel (thumbs up on this one! It's the goods) and then went downtown to meet the people who we are renting the apartment from in the East Village. Super sweet people and its a great little neighbourhood. We even got sassed by the guy at the register at Duane Reade (like a Priceline on roids) 'All you Aussies seem to think this area of Manhattan is like the best and you know it really isn't but whatever...' Yes exactly WHATEVER little boy with your toss shot hipster haircut and faux prescription black rimmed glasses! He was probably going to suggest Washington Square Park where all the NYU kids hang out. We then checked out a little Italian restaurant called Supper which was simply incredible. Proper authentic Italian food, the kind that Ange's mum makes. Good, clean flavours that pack a punch. We started with bread and a dip made of cannellini beans, olive oil, chilli, garlic and parsley. For mains (or Appetizers in America) Lee had pancetta and mushroom risotto and I had tagliatelle with beef ragu. We then crashed after being on the go for over 30 hours. Yesterday we started the day right with a little Starbucks goodness. The thing about people who live in NYC is that they work and play hard and crash and hit rock bottom young. There was a couple sitting at the table next to us and they were having a post break up conversation to clean the air. Apologies were swapped and insights offered via their sponsors meaning they were both 'Anonymous' some way or the other. Lee and I then walked up to Macy*s where we explored all seven floors that now includes one whole floor called 'The Shoe Salon'. We bought some clothes that were on sale and upon exit it proceeded to rain so we made a dash for the nearest cafe. After eating lunch and the rain had cleared we browsed a couple of stores in Herald Square before I admitted defeat and walked back to the hotel. I had worn brand new Havaianas and they simply got the better of me... Big time. I'm now the proud owner of 6 blisters, 2 of which are underneath my feet on the base right where my toes sit and they're not a bag of fun! Oh and they're about the size of a fifty cent coin respectively. Yep, ouch. For dinner last night we met Kimmy and Andres at the Mercury Bar which was packed out because Jets were playing Patriots so we walked up to Noodles 28 which is a great small Asian restaurant. We ate like kings - Prawn Summer Rolls, Crunchy Noodles with dipping sauces, Edamame, Pork Spare Ribs and for mains we had Prawn Pad Thai, Hong Kong Steak and General Tso's Chicken. We then went back to Kimmy and Andres' apartment to meet the new addition to the family, a little swanky ginger cat named Diego. So this morning I woke up in a world of pain with my feet and could barely walk the 5 steps to the bathroom. This is the crashing part. Lee did a run to the chemist and got me all sorts of blister bits and pieces and I have spent the day with my feet elevated. Lee spent the day exploring the sights and sounds of 3rd avenue, Dylan's Candy Bar, Bloomingdales and then walked down to Times Square. She also grabbed a pretty purple mani to the sound of $15. So that's it folks, you guys are now up to date. No crazy shenanigans (yet). Tomorrow we check out of the hotel and into the apartment. I'm taking a class with the Little Flower School at the Wythe Hotel in Brooklyn. I'm very excited but very nervous. Tomorrow night we are heading to the San Genarro festival in Little Italy. Ciao!
