My job refuses to lay me off due to covid. I’ve worked at this company for 5.5 years. When this shit hit I had to stay home and take care of my kids. I can’t file for unemployment if I quit or if I take a leave of absence. Those are the only two options they are offering. One thing I learned when I worked there is they only care about clients and patient numbers. When shit hit the fan, everything they put in place was only geared towards keeping the clients safe, not us. We get colds and the flu so easy because it comes in on our patients. I work in a vet clinic and we are all very close together at all times. There’s no 6 feet apart. There’s no not bonding with your patients, they’re cats and dogs and you have to love on them. I have asthma and lung capacity issues. I applied for disability but was declined because “I don’t have symptoms of the virus”. I wish this place would pull their heads out of their asses and take care of their employees. I’ve decided to take a leave of absence so I can milk the benefits of health insurance (yay America) but if my kids don’t go back to school in August I’m done. I’ve been done for awhile but I need something else in place to make an income.
