HOW TO MAKE IT WORK WHEN IT’S NOT WORKING - a guide to taking it on the chin
Everyday we are told countlessly that our friends, family members and especially our colleagues have had an unpleasant experience and that they have simply “taken it on the chin”.
This is a mini-guide dedicated to those individuals who take what they are given and make it work.
Adopt the TBC philosophy of taking it on the chin. Sophie van der Linden, one of our founders has issued a personal guarantee that changing your demeanor when things go sour will make it right and make it work. Take something old and make it new again. Make a bad decision and fashion it into a life choice you’ll never forget. Take a bad feeling and transform it into an experience worthy of sharing with your friends. - A testimonial from Genevieve Listovich.
Unfortunately due to personal circumstances, the other founder, Mr Listovich, can not stand behind this guarantee and in the case of a tribunal dispute any legal action will be met by the judicial branch representing GL.
Below are real life examples of individuals who have TIOTC.
Adrian McCarthy- “I knew I could make it work.”

“Hi TBC readers, I never thought that I would be on the other side of this blog.. contributing... I am really honoured to feature on this and also nervous about sharing my story. I hope I can express it eloquently. To set the scene, it is essential that you know that throughout my whole life I have been part of many social groups, I like to keep a full schedule and meet new people (can you blame me?)
One the people I met in this social group was a woman of great intensity, for her anonymity I will call her Jennifer, she somehow managed to source my home phone number, email address and worst of all my AOL messenger details.
At first I found her constant pestering flattering and even endearing, however as the messages piled in my fears deepened. On top of my social events I also have two well respected and demanding jobs, it would be a gross understatement to say I am a “busy” man. I did not have the time for this harassment.
My colleague, Dave, advised that I needed to get a restraining order against Jennifer as the issues would only escalate if left over summer- the heat would not help the situation was his advice.
However on day 12, I took my dog (Alaskan Bulldog) for a walk up to the highest point in my neighbourhood. The 3.3km walk allowed me to reconvene and make a plan of action. This was 10 years ago now.. I am now married to Jennifer. It turns out that Jennifer had an instant connection to me and what she was actually experiencing was true love, and separation anxiety. Not only did taking it on the chin mean that I did not have to contact the police it resulted in me having two children. “
“Look, I’m not usually one to sing the praises the internet but I came across this site in a google search. Reading the words something really changed in my mind, it was like a light came on. I bought a new ‘smart phone’, borrowed my sons iPad and updated the software and downloaded the news apps. I got new skills that I couldn’t stop using, I had a mind for technology. One day as I was on the ‘Fox News’ app in my arm chair, and my vision started to blur. My wife came in panicking... I straightened my glasses and separated the blinds to see what could possibly be causing such a reaction. There was an irate man standing in the driveway waving his arms and hurling words of hatred. I looked at him in the eyes and realised something bad - this was my son. My usual response would be to call the authorities but I stopped. I reconvened internally, and thought about the situation in a way that blew my demons somewhere far. This was my son. My heart rate stopped for 2 minutes as my mind rewired itself into a calm, passionate state. I took a step outside and said “hi, son”.”
