Empty takeaway boxes littered the counter, but Rory hardly took notice as he leaned with his elbows on the grubby surface. His flat had fallen into a state of disarray since he'd got back. Nothing seemed worth doing any more.

"I can't. I'm sorry, guys, but I really should just go home."

"Are you sure? We were just getting started. There's still so much to show you!"

"No, I should. I don't belong here. I'm just the third wheel."

It had been nearly a month, Earth time, since they'd grudgingly accepted to drop him home. If he was honest with himself, he couldn't stand to be around the two of them any more. It was just too much. On top of that, he'd fallen in love with Amy, despite knowing she was married, despite knowing that she was a completely different species. It just wasn't possible.
