Only functions necessary to your survival remain. That means no more executive function. The ability to access memories, weigh the pros and cons and make decisions is gone. All that matters is how fast you can run away from the bear that's chasing you. This is a good thing, except when we're in fear for extended periods of time. When you still have to function in society. When you still need to perform at work, be a parent, drive a car, have a relationship. And guess what? Your immune system is considerably weakened when you're in fight or flight too because right now all that matters is running away from the bear. Fighting infections can wait. Problem is, today we're constantly triggered into fight or flight mode and most of us have no idea how to recover from this. In fact we think worrying is necessary, it makes us "productive". But really it's counter productive! Staying calm under pressure will get you there faster. This is one of the lessons we learn in martial arts. Very early on actually. Control your breathing, assess what you are responsible for and focus on the task. The only thing you have control over is how you react to things and you can take responsibility for that. Everything else is not up to you. Consider all the information we're bombarded with that is supposed to inform us and help us make better decisions. How much of it is helping you and how much of it is making you dumb and sick by triggering you into fear? You can stay informed and take responsibility for your wellbeing. Prioritize moving. Prioritize the quality of your food. Prioritize your quiet time. You'll probably end up making better decisions and stay in better health. And you know where to find me if you need help. https://www.instagram.com/p/CFqKayHhoy8/?igshid=rkwn0yaqjc6z
