One of the things I love about the Prince of Ruin 'verse is the way that it's - about a lot of things, but about how /family/ is one of the underlying themes. I mean - the Lucis Caelum line in general, including those stuck in the Ring, are - refocusing. Shifting away from Duty and Responsibility and Prophecy and Revenge, and - remembering that they're /family/. By that token - I wonder how long the Kings in the Ring have thought of one another as a fellow monarch, and not - family.
For far too long probably; it’d be easy, I think, to forget that the other hundred and thirteen souls in the ring with you are family; because you’re dead, and even those in the Ring that you did know are different now so it’s easy to forget how important family is.
But when the Lucii remember, when they remember what having a family is supposed to mean, when they see a child sent to war to right the wrongs of two thousand years ago, they rage. Lucis Caelum’s are possessive I think, and Noctis is theirs.
And in a way, I think, that’s a reason why the rest of the Lucii are furious with what Somnus did. They hear what happened to Ardyn; see how Ardyn takes care of and loves Noctis and they are furious with Somnus for leaving his brother; they are furious that the reason Noctis was forced into role of child soldier is because the Astrals deemed him the one to fix Somnus’ mistakes.
They are furious.
You don’t abandon family after all.
