hi can i ask what you used as a ref for newt's arm tattoos? and also his bracelets? thank youuuuu, sorry for the trouble!

Suuuuuuuuuuuuuure

Well first off, there was a lot of intense gawking at this pic. You can actually get a really good idea of the bracelets in it. Bear in mind, my “I <3 KAIJU” bracelet isn’t at all screen accurate- I just wanted something dorky and original for my cosplay.

Second, (regarding tattoos) I referred to the Pac Rim art book concept art A LOT. Since NOBODY’S got good references of Newt’s tattoos… and frankly probably won’t until the movie’s released next month, the next best thing after fuzzy screencaps is the concept art- they actually followed it pretty close on that elusive left arm. (FromwhatIcantell)

To help fill in any guesses in my design, I looked at what other Newt cosplayers were doing for their sleeves and studied traditional Japanese tattoo work. Looking at ukiyo-e prints gave an interesting flavor, too!
