Asked for Taleo + “Our first date is a picnic on a beach under the stars? Have you swallowed a romance novel? Do I need to call a doctor?” So here it is!!
Talib heard the back door open and knew that Leon would be by his side in a moment, but still huffed in surprise when a kiss was suddenly planted on his cheek. He whipped around, smiling but silently cursing Leon and his ability to go completely silent–not that he could really complain when Leon continued to press light kisses to his cheeks, jaw, anywhere he could reach. Talib hummed happily and bent down to meet Leon’s lips with his own, his hands coming up to rest on his shoulders.
“Good afternoon to you too,” Talib purred, gently running a thumb over the scars on Leon’s neck. Leon stuck his tongue out obnoxiously. “It’s only four o clock, first of all, and second of all, are you ready?” He asked, grabbing Talib’s hands and squeezing them excitedly.
Leon had come to Talib the week before, soft spoken and serious, asking if he was comfortable enough to go on their first official date. Talib almost said no, that he needed more time, the claws of his last relationship still deep in his back. It terrified him, thinking about giving his love to someone again, but when Leon assured him unprompted that he could back out at any time, Talib reminded himself that Leon could never hurt him like She had, and so he agreed.
Talib hummed his assent, but not without adding “I’d be more ready if you’d tell me where we were going.” Leon had insisted that he planned out their first date, as well as insisting it should be a surprise. Talib normally had no qualms about hanging out with Leon, mostly due to the fact that Leon normally took the back seat when it came to planning those types of things with him. But Leon’s idea of a good time normally involved both loud noises and lots of people, neither of which came to mind when Talib thought of fun. Nevertheless, Talib truly wanted this, wanted Leon, and if it took going to a sweaty nightclub to get him, then so be it.
Leon smirked and tilted his head to the side, giving Talib a good look at the long stretch of his neck. “Well, what would be the fun in that?” Leon remarked before tip toeing up to plant one more kiss on Talib’s cheek, gently pulling him away from the counter he’d been leaning on and out the back door. Talib’s hand only slipped from Leon’s when his eyes settled on the red convertible waiting in the driveway. Talib nearly tripped in his haste to get to the car before remembering to play it cool, at least try to for something as important as tonight. Still, he couldn’t hide his dorky grin as he ran a hand over the leather seats, admiring the upholstery.
“Leon, this looks authentic, where the hell did you find this?” He gushed, checking the back decals and yeah, a ‘61 Pontiac was pretty authentic.
“I pooled in a favor Rosa owed me, along with promising I wouldn’t get a scratch on her at least fifty times,” Leon explained. “I thought you’d like it,” he added with a pleased smile, going around the front to open the passenger door. Talib raised an eyebrow but allowed Leon to help him in.
Once Leon got in and started the ignition he revved the engine obnoxiously, startling a chuckle from Talib. They pulled out of the driveway and began the drive to wherever Leon decided to take them. The cool November air whipped by, pulling strands of Talib’s hair out of his ponytail. Talib let himself enjoy the ride, glancing over at Leon every once in a while, who’s contagious smile had him grinning as well. The whole situation was just completely ridiculous, Leon had no right to give make him feel this way, to make his chest swell pleasantly with every glance, every knowing smile, god knows Talib didn’t deserve it after everything he’d done. But somehow he’d gotten lucky enough for someone like Leon, someone who thought he deserved the world.
Talib was so deep in thought that it took him a moment to realize the car had stopped and Leon had gotten out. Talib looked around, taking in the scene. The sun was just going down on the horizon, casting golden rays over a placid lake surrounded by pines. Leon opened the passenger door and held out his hand, the other one clutching a large wicker basket Talib hadn’t noticed. Talib accepted and smiled confusedly when Leon laced their fingers together and led him down to the bank of the lake. Cool drafts of air drifted from the surface of the water, mossy and damp like the forest floor after rain. It sent a shiver down Talib’s spine and Leon seemed to notice, quickly spreading the blanket out in the sand and motioning for Talib to sit down. He sat and leant into Leon’s side, not particularly cold but happy with the proximity. They sat in comfortable silence for a moment, enjoying the serenity of the sunset over the lake. When dusk set in and the sky ran purple, Talib turned to Leon.
Before he could ask, Leon interrupted him, hauling the basket over. “Are you hungry? I brought grapes and crackers and Yuengling cause you still haven’t gone to any local breweries, and I made basbousa because I know it’s your favorite and it’s probably not as good as your moms-”
“Leon, honey, you’re rambling again,” Talib interrupted softly, a smile slowly creeping up. “What is all of this?”
Leon shrugged, sheepish. “ I just thought maybe you’d want to take it slow tonight, I know clubs can get pretty overwhelming for you, and the sky’s supposed to be crystal clear tonight-“ Talib interrupted again, now grinning from ear to ear.
“Our first date is a picnic on a beach under the stars? Have you swallowed a romance novel? Do I need to call a doctor?” He teased, playfully pushing the back of his hand against Leon’s forehead and cheek to feel for a fever. Leon pouted and nudged his boyfriend’s worrying hands away.
“I thought you’d like it,” Leon whined. Talib smirked and took pity on him, pressing a gentle kiss to the corner of his mouth.
“I love it, it’s very sweet of you.” Leon turned and returned the kiss, sending thrills down Talib’s back. They separated and Leon searched Talib’s eyes, his own bright with admiration.
“I love you,” Leon breathed, such a simple sentence coming out like a prayer.
Talib smirked in return. “Honey, that’s gay.”
With a dramatic groan Leon flopped back onto the blanket, hiding behind his hands. “I really love you, but you’re fucking killing me, and I’m already dead!” He whined, but Talib could hear the smile in his voice. Talib laid back and tucked Leon’s head under his chin, gazing up at the now shining sky.
“That just means you’re stuck with me,” Talib decided. “Definitely, because I can’t let go of a boy who makes me basbousa for our first date.”
Leon laughed and snuggled closer, and Talib decided that there were definitely worse ways to spend a first date.
