a man who talks a lot and doesn't offer comfort......
oh jesus
chen maidong running his mouth as if he knows everything while jie is mourning--for the second time in her life--the violent death of her father just isn't working for me. what can he know about death that she doesn't? i think i understand what the show is doing here with him--he's steady, he's dependable, he stays and she leaves so she can return to him, he's stoic and aloof but feels and loves deeply--but the focus on his work/job as being uniquely noble and a reflection of his character, and the insistence that he dole out aphorisms and life advice like he's yoda or mr. feeny or something.......it's just not working for me. like i am legit crying rn along with jie and he's talking about 'oh my grandma will leave me one day.' no shit, sherlock. both jie's dads--one she lost when she was a child--are dead, and mr. he left behind a very young daughter like you're 30 something and your grandma is like 70 like what are you saying?????
