The "Just Friends" Debacle
⚠️ Content Warnings Age Up: Characters are depicted in their late 20s. Public Setting: Story takes place during a televised talk show interview. Marriage: Features established husband and wife dynamics. 📖 Story Details Genre: Fluff, Friends to Lovers, Romantic Comedy. Word Count: Short Story / Drabble. Tone: Funny, sweet, and nostalgic. Tropes: Pining, "The Long Game," Childhood Best Friends. Summary A now-grown Walker Scobell reflects on his decade-long journey from being a pining best friend to a devoted husband. During a late-night talk show appearance, he reveals the chaotic, powdered-sugar-covered moment that finally ended their "just friends" era.
The bright studio lights of The Late Show glinted off the glass of water on the desk, but Walker Scobell looked as comfortable as if he were sitting in his own living room. Now in his late 20s, he had traded the chaotic energy of his teenage years for a polished, charming wit though the mischievous glint in his eyes remained.
"So, Walker," the host leaned in, a knowing smile on his face. "The internet is obsessed with you and your wife, Y/N. You two were best friends for, what, over a decade before you got married?"
Walker chuckled, leaning back and crossing one ankle over his knee. "Yeah, it was a long game. A very, very long, unintentional game."
The audience laughed as a photo of the two of you from a premiere ten years ago flashed on the screen.
"See that?" Walker pointed at the screen. "That is the face of a man who is deeply in love and a woman who is wondering if she left the oven on. I was pining, man. Hard."
"Was there a specific moment where the 'friend' line was finally crossed?" the host asked.
"Well," Walker started, grinning. "We were at this little hole-in-the-wall diner in Vancouver. It was like 2:00 AM. We’d spent the whole night arguing about which Star Wars movie was objectively the worst which is a dangerous game to play with her because she’s smarter than me."
