ooohhhh today was my BIRTHDAY and here is a big ramble about me being nostalgic and also autistic over deltarune. it is Long so be warned if u dont wanna read allat
today as of writing this i've just turned 19 years old. i decided to go to a childhood mall today and it.. kinda made me sad? not in a way that ruins my day but its like. bittersweet. melancholic?
the place i went first was the toys R us - i fondly remember it being brightly lit, shelves stocked sky high, and full of all kinds of fun stuff to lose yourself in. fast forward about 10 years (nowadays), and its.. clearly gone through a lot. the lights are dim, theres not as much stock as there used to be, and everything felt so... desperate, in a way? like they were trying to get everything out of it as they could even though its outlived itself
the lego was up at the front instead of in its own huge aisle, feeling like it was telling you to just buy it and leave. the video game section was gone entirely and replaced with some other store, and all of the aisles that used to be sorted nicely were all seemingly mashed together into one small aisle.
it really reminded me of chapter 3 - mainly with tenna and his character. the desperation to stay relevant, holding on to the past so dearly and not wanting to let go of it, and the fear of being forgotten and thrown away. in fact, this track was ringing in my head as i wandered around the place.
regardless, the entire vibe of the store felt like it.. didn't want to go. that it didn't want to be replaced by something new. it wanted to keep the dream alive but unfortunately just.. got too old and couldn't keep up.
i've had very nice memories of this place that i cherish dearly. i remember buying hero factory sets from the lego aisle. discovering skylanders for the first time in the video game section and browsing the gigantic wall of them. looking at the expensive transformers toys next to the angry birds telepods.
it's quite sad to see it coming to its inevitable end. it will forever hold a special place in my heart as the toy store that made me who i am today - and i hope that it can still create more happy memories with the new generation despite how old it is.
had a cool deltarune-related idea/art prompt:
what if your room (or somewhere else related to you) had a dark world counterpart?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
like. who would be the Big Bad, what would the bosses be, what would the people/enemies/npcs be and look like, what would the architecture be, what would the plot be... all that cool stuff. i think a LOT could be done with this its a rlly neat idea
