Day -10: Went up the country to my parents’ house in lovely Dunkelsteinerwald to spend some time with them before leaving. Sitting in the sunny silence of an overgrown garden I had a pretty interesting conversation with my 90-year-old father, who is, as some of you may know, a contemporary art music composer. He told me that he does´t know any pop music. I said well, at least you know The Beatles, don´t you? He had to admit. We talked about genre borders for a while and he told me he noticed that some jazzers are into art music now. He complained that nobody could tell him the difference between pop and rock yet. I tried. Isn´t American folk music the root of both?, he asked me. I told him the root of everything but art music is blues. He agreed.
