There is such a disparity in how Potemkin’s character is interpreted between different parts of the community, and that astounds me.
I was so surprised to learn that people who play as him, and the people who like the character are two completely different fandoms that don't even always overlap. The amount of people I've talked to who main him and know nothing about who he is as a character is more than I would have ever thought.
He tends to get pretty joke-ified in the playerbase, so the interpretation tends to be 'lul funny big hands man from all the memez'
i mean, it's fine to make jokes, and i get the fact that grapplers have a certain reputation in the FGC--believe me, i had to literally ask someone what the heck the term "glue-eater" meant when i was starting out...but he's just so not that???
like, yes, i can accept your interpretation of the character from a gameplay perspective for fun and funny memes and jokes and funsies, but you are also wrong.
(i must also add for clarity's sake that this is no way meant to be any sort of call-out post or an attack on that part of the community, for as a grappler main myself, i too enjoy a sensible chuckle about the consumption of paste and crayons every now and again heehee haha, anyway, back to business.)
This man has a kind heart and above average intelligence. He is SMART BOI. He has EMOTIONAL DEPTH and STRENGTH OF CHARACTER beyond the physical, and I will continue to evangelize about my favorite Zeppian until morale improves and people stop thinking he's just another 'big dumb grappler' because he's NOT!
