Melanie Martinez's New Album Is Simply Amazing! Such An Embodiment Of Artist Growth!
"Portals" is simply something else. It is ethereal, immersive, and simply beautiful. And I absolutely love the visuals Melanie uses within the visualizers. My personal favorite songs within the album would be the "THE CONTORTIONIST" and "EVIL" because of hurtful events I have experienced within my past. The lyrics really resonate with me on a deep and personal level. It helps me manage with those emotions that may flare up from those times whenever I'm forced to interact with the people who put me through that pain...
However.
There is one element that particularly stands out to me. And that is the use of the hollyhock flower within the album cover.
"Why?" you may ask...
I say that this is an amazing element to see within the visuals because of what the blooming hollyhock flowers represent.
The hollyhock flower actually represents fertility, transition, abundance, ambition, change, and the afterlife. It carries a certain significance about what the circle of life holds for a being.
These are the values that "Portals" holds throughout each and every song. An embodiment of change and growth. There are lyrics within each song that describe the exact things that the hollyhock represents.
This alone, is simply amazing for me to see within Mel's work. The entire creation of "Portals" is something I have enjoyed this day of March 31st, 2023.
