since you seem to have extremely correct takes on Saw I need to know your opinion on Saw IV

first of all im honored <3 and hmmmm…..unfortunately saw IV is on the lower end of my saw ranking. i think the franchise suffers a lot from having just lost leigh as a writer, and it hasnt quite found its footing yet in a way that it does for V and, to me in many ways, VI. the misogyny is suddenly quite staggering in IV, between the rape scene and images, the scalping, the wife getting punished for her abusive husband, and in general a kind of lack of interesting and fleshed out female characters. it does give us perez, who i love, but who is really lacking as a character (and of course. who “dies”).

that being said, bringing her and strahm in was a great choice because we needed fresh blood, and they carry! i also think rigg could have been so interesting, but they kind of dropped the ball in IV for me with him. maybe its just killing him off so simply, or maybe its that his crime makes no sense, or maybe its that his test being so blatantly recruitment with no follow up and no explanation (because thats…..not how apprentices work at any other time in the franchise) bothers me a lot. its not a BAD movie, and as much as i hate hoffman, i think that the design of his trap and the reveal is pretty good! overall its a weak saw movie but not terrible, it just left a lot to be desired and is a big drop, especially as its stuck between III and V. i almost never rewatch it unless im doing a whole franchise watch.
