Um, this is sorta a awkwardish question but: do you have any advice on not freaking out when using tampons? Like, I'm 99% sure i can get one in, its just seems like it would be kinda freaky walking around when you have one in, if that makes sense? Idk. I figured you might know, cause its kinda scaring me aha
Awkward? Ha! So it’s just having it in and walking about? Well here are some TIPS, for all you tampon lovers/hater/have-to-deal-withers out there! I hope I can put your mind at ease Anon. I have been bleeding for like 5 years now, so I might have this covered.
1) Get the right fit! If you have a heavy flow, get a bigger tampon! I personally use U by Kotex Click Compact. With has normal, super, and super + which is usually enough for just about any flow. Also know your body, your flow changes as your period progresses having a large expanding tampon in your vagina without enough liquid to properly dampen it, is an uncomfortable hell.
2) Application! Don’t be afraid to shove that bad boy in there. As long as you have some string to yank on, you’re golden. If you deposit the tampon too close to the entrance of your vagina, it will be uncomfortable, as you’ll feel the end of the cotton wad holding you open, or, God forbid, poking out, which is arguably worse than a too big tampon, especially when sitting down, it can Hurt.
3) Time and patience! It will take time to get used to the feeling of having a tampon in. When I say time, it is usually half an hour or so for new tampon users for each tampon, for maybe 2-3 periods. You will get used to it.
4) Health! If it hurts on insertion, or tend to slip/get pushed out, see a doctor! It could by polyps, a cyst, or any number of other issues. Usually harmless, but best if you get it checked/removed as they can quickly become un-harmless, and are usually rather uncomfortable.
5) Pay Attention! I don’t just mean for full tampons/leaks (which will be a problem getting the hang of the first few times, I suggest panty liners at first until you get the hang of it). Toxic shock syndrome often happens towards the end of a period when you leave it in for too long/forget about it. I wouldn’t go more than 24 hours, though you can last longer than that without getting TS. Another huge cause is accidental double tampons! Always always check of a string, even if you have to dig a little because if may have retreated inside you (So doubtful) or gotten lost in that labia. After insertion of a second tampon, the first is left forgotten and the rotting blood eventually gives you toxic shock. Be careful!
6) Don’t be afraid to get small amounts of several different brands to see what works best for you!
Sorry if this was too much info, but….have….fun? Also ever be afraid to ask me anything. All subjects are open, nothing is awkward. I love all of you guys, and I will help you anyway I can. <3
