Today Keith Haring would have been 62 years old; he died of AIDS 30 years ago in 1990. Timely that @billyboy1979 shared this pic wearing his AIDS Memorial Tee yesterday and sharing his Keith Haring tattoo. Keith Allen Haring was an American artist whose pop art and graffiti-like work grew out of the New York City street culture of the 1980s. Much of his work includes sexual allusions that turned into social activism. He achieved this by using sexual images to advocate for safe sex and AIDS awareness. We’ve come a long way in how we define “safe sex” but we must never forget those who fought and died for our freedoms and that AIDS isn’t over. #whatisrememberedlives #endAIDS #theaidsmemorial #tamtee #audrelorde #haring #keithharing #queerart #queerstreetart #queerantine #pingamestrong #PrEP #UequalsU #HIVequal #ScienceNotStigma #factsnotfear https://www.instagram.com/p/B_xCWIBhies/?igshid=w3gx639oxxf6

. . “Repping my @theaidsmemorialtshirt all day every day. A beautiful account that remembers and honors those lost to HIV/AIDS.” — by Ben Levi Ross @benlross . #whatisrememberedlives #theaidsmemorial #aidsmemorial #endaids #tamtee .
. . “I’ve often wondered if I hadn’t chosen to leave NYC in 1979 for college if I might have contracted AIDS myself. Born in NYC in 1961, I didn’t “truly” embrace my sexuality until I returned home from college in 1983 and by then we were all on high alert over the “epidemic.” . But that didn’t stop me from living and I tried to find my way as a young gay man in NYC by joining the Gay Men’s Chorus, Lavender Light: The Black & People of All Colors Lesbian & Gay Gospel Choir, Congregation Beth Simchat Torah and of course, trekking out to The Pines during those early summers. . It was also during that time that I met wonderful men who were, for the most part, slightly older than myself, say 5-10 years older. Safe sex wasn’t necessarily a part of their coming out as it was for mine and sadly I watched as many of them got sick and passed away. These men were my mentors and yet they were disappearing before my very eyes. . I have already submitted memorials here for my 1st boyfriend #BobDennett and also one for my best friend #TomMackanin, both whom died from AIDS before I turned 30. Luckily I had plenty of photos of both of them and have already posted memorials to them. . But sadly I don’t have photos of any of the other men whose memorial services and funerals I attended back then and I find myself scanning the posts in @theaidsmemorial hoping I will see their faces again. . I so wish I could include them here but all I have are their names and my memories of them. And so I would like to pay tribute to them by wearing @theaidsmemorialtshirt and writing their names here: . David Leriche, Larry Bryan, Marc Krasnow, Ron Corso, Michael Dennett, Tony Lambert, Guy - can’t recall his last name but had worked for Helmsley, Constantine ?, Andy Cemelli, Fred Chance, David Johnson, Kevin Young, Guillermo Alonzo, Kirk Irons, Larry Schneer, Steven Greenstein, #CarmeloPomodoro, Frank Hartman, Chuck Hanson, Richard Fowler, Anthony Pacheco, #HenryRomanowski. . But I will never stop looking for their faces here!” — by Daniel Sager @danisagernyc . #whatisrememberedlives @theaidsmemorialtshirt #aidsmemorial #neverforget #endaids #tamtee . Words worth sharing, thank you Matt @amalgamedia 💜💙💚💛🧡❤️ . #Repost @theaidsmemorial with @get_repost ・・・ . . “You may find yourself 23 years from the days and weeks you first sweat the virus, digging in the dirt. You may be asking yourself these questions still: Where to put the coneflowers? How many varieties of potatoes to sow? What to do with the serviceberries? . Along with: Why are 7000 Americans still dying of AIDS every year? Why a million new cases of HIV transmission? When we have effective treatment, and we have adequate prevention in PrEP, why are people still dying of AIDS? . Yesterday, I vaccinated 160 alpaca, and 1 llama. This will prevent worms, tetanus, and other ills visited upon the camelids. . Do what's in you path first, before you go out to save the world. A life worth living inspires a life worth saving. Do everything you want, nothing less. That's how you honor the dead, prepare the garden soil in your soul first. Graft a scion to root stock, so the cultivar grows anew. Cut off the dead, and know when to stay quiet about HIV/AIDS. This has kept me alive 20 years longer than my departed lovers and friends. . Hands to work, heart to these roots, the buds, flowers, and this fruit. Life grows from memory and desire, stay in the garden as long as it takes.” — by Matt Ebert @amalgamedia . #whatisrememberedlives @theaidsmemorialtshirt #aidsmemorial #neverforget #endaids #tamtee .
